This puzzled me for a while. I was looking for a Sony timer accessory. This is not needed. There is simply a switch on the front of the 520 that has the effect - "next time i'm powered up I'll go straight into record mode". An external timeswitch simply powers up whenever you set it, and a source, such as tuner, will be recorded.
