Appreciate the reply - but the sites you mention dont seem to stock the Lip-4wm ( the Lithium battery for the NH1) They do carry the NickelMetal Hydride (NW14m ) which fits my N1 ( but already got 3 of those gumsticks!! ) Since posting my original request I've been reading that Lithiums start to deteriorate straight from manufacture - whether being used or not. So keeping a "spare" isnt thought to be a good idea!! And I'm now thinking seriously about the R10 !!!! The spec says NiMh battery - anyone know if sony are going back to the NW14 gumstick on this new model??

Thanks Tony! Much appreciate your reply. I've always thought that Sony branded stuff was sometimes a wee bit overpriced - £35 isnt too too bad - but wouldnt it be nice to track down a (good) "clone" battery for less than this??!!

Has anyone found a uk stockist for the NH1 lithium-ion battery (the LIP4-WM) - I would like to pick up a spare but have had no luck with Google etc searches ( and Sonycentres are no help either!) Would like to find an actual shop with some in stock rather than web based if poss. Thanks all.

Have a Hi-MD question that doesn't need a thread? [part III]

I'm using Sonic Stage 2.1 and wonder if there is any way to record audio cds any louder into SS and then hence onto my NH1 and HD1? The SS Faq on Sony Support site says "no way to change volume" - I tried to change my volume slider on CD recorder but appears to make no difference. Anyone know of a way to get SS to record "louder"?! Thanks. PS I managed to do this using SD JUkebox on the Panasonic SD-sv85 player. So volume 15 out of 20 on the player was quite loud. But want to do same with Sonic Stage! -

Hope this isnt too far off topic!? Got an NH1 - very pleased etc. BUT.... am very keen on the Sony hard drive player NW-HD1 too. My question is this. Some US stockists/reviews mention a remote. Most euro stockists/review say no remote. The manual I downloaded shows the socket(s) - just same as on my NH1 but no mention of any remote. Can anyone confirm one way or another please. I understand a neck lanyard can be used with it so I would actually use it with just a short cable set of earbuds and control everything via the player. But all this "provision" for a remote has confused me!! ( Silly question - I dont suppose my NH1 remote (or even my old N1 remote) would work with the HD1?? ) -
Agree with quakrz. My nh1 seems quite loud enough ( as compares with my mz-n1 ) On the 1-30 volume scale I use about 10/12 in a quiet room and approx 16/18 on noisier trains etc. I tried about 25 ish and it was too loud!! ( that's using sony in ear ex71's. ( PS my nh1 was bought in uk and is 5mw/made in japan model) PPS very pleased with it so far - excellent build etc only slight prob seems to be Sonic Stage locking up every so often and forcing me to reboot my computer.

Hi mutant 1345 You say you got another shorter cable. Isnt the connector at the nh1 end something of a non standard / sony proprietry plug?? Are these readily available etc?? Thanks. -

Just got my nh1 today. The usb lead has 2 of those heavy "lumps" ( are they called rf chokes?!) wrapped round the cable at each end. ( Also 2 or 3 spares for other cables eg line in are in the box) They are detachable - does anyone know how vital it is to leave these on?? Would be much more convenient to carry cable around without these huge ( and heavy ) lumps!!?? -
Just got mine!! Ask electronics on Tottenham Court Road say they have "quite a few"!! £229 sterling. Agree with others - it's smaller than expected - very well built - a sexy little machine. The finish on the magnesium surprised me. Not smooth and polished but covered in lots a little "lines" . Slotting into charging cradle feels very "solid" / clunk and click!! Will be transferring some Atracs and testing the sound later.

Ask Electronics on Tottenham Court Rd - London have all the 600/700/800 versions ( ie all colours!). Told me the 900 and NH1 expected in next few days!

thanks again jadeclaw - that's more or less what I thought when I tried last night. Presumably at some stage the new Hi-md machines will be boxed with SS 2.1 ( with the greater functionality of burning audio cd's and mp3 cd's )? - but all posts I've read from early receivers seem to suggest all hi-mds are shipping with SS2.0 Perhaps eventually the "Europe" site will change to 2.1 downloading?? -

Hi Jadeclaw Many thanks for quick reply!! Sounds like version 2.1 of Sonic Stage is the one to try. ( and I'll keep an eye on these forums for reviews of Sony Wave converter software when (if?!) it becomes available.) I made a mistake in original post and meant to say "using N1 gumsticks in the NH900" ?! Sorry about that! I've since found an earlier thread saying that they should work - give longer play time etc. But I'm still wondering if the supplied NH900 charger will work as efficiently - or if somehow better to charge up the 1400mah sticks in the N1 - and then use in the 900?? Maybe it wouldnt really make any difference-just take a bit longer?! -

Hope this is ok in this section - a mix of questions from a newbie! I'm confused re all this uploading debate. What I want to do is this. I record lots of DAB radio (onto mz-n1) Would like transfer to PC and cut/edit/reorder etcetc. Apart from in real time via soundcard will this be possible( I'm hoping to pick up an nh1 as soon as they hit uk) I wonder if the "Sony Wav converter" program i've seen mentioned is what's needed?? My second question is re Sony Connect. I was sent an email by Sony with some "free" credits. I followed the links in these forums and downloaded Sonic Stage version 2.1 - but this gives the US version of Connect. So I uninstalled and went to the Sony Europe site. I downloaded Sonic Stage - but found that it's only version 2.0!! Is there an easy/obvious way to get version 2.1 but with the uk prices etc?? Final question - if I got a NH900 rather than NH1 is there any problem using the N1 gumsticks (got 3 of those!) in the NH1?? It's a higher 1400maH I think. Would the supplied charger with NH1 be able to work fully with these gumsticks?? Thanks in advance everyone - apologies if obvious/stupid questions - great forum!! -
After all the fuss re ipod battery life/replacement etc ( cf up to 30 hrs for HD1 ) I was interested to see page 36 of the Sony manual for the hd1. Shows you how to replace the battery - not difficult at all!! Basically take 2 screws out, push out of case, one screw holding battery in, pull off small connector then reverse process with new battery. Sounds like a 5 minute DIY job! Certainly attracts me when compared with Ipod.

Thanks for reply tbdoah! The specification pages I've found list the NH1 battery as LiP 4- WM which I thought was similar size but shorter life than the 14WM?? Also the Sony spec sheets make no mention of being able to use AA bolt on case with NH1. I hope it's possible to use one with the NH1 because that would decide my choice between NH900 and NH1 !! Cant wait for machines ( and reviews) to start coming out! -

Hi all I am trying to decide between NH900 and NH1. Very important to me is battery life. For the 900 is the attachable AA holder/case which more than doubles battery life. Plus the fact that I already have 2 gumstick 14wm's from my N1 - which I believe will work in a 900 but give even longer life than the supplied gumstick? Can anyone confirm this please? For the N1 is the fact that it's neater/smaller and (important ) got a full magnesium shell. But the Li-ion is the only battery option ( no AA bolt-on?) Does anyone have any ideas about availability of spare Li-ions for the NH1? Price? Also if I want to take a spare battery or 2 on a longish trip - would I have to charge them all individually in the unit or do you reckon anyone will make a "battery charger" taking say 2 or 3 of the Li-ions?? Finally - if I need to take the charger with me - do I also need the "stand" as well to recharge or does charger plug into either main unit as well as usb stand? Thanks for all the help/good information on the forums guys and gals!!
