  1. I've had the MZ-NF610 for less than a year and the remote is starting to malfunction for MD playback, which seemed inevitable based on some reviews (the radio is fine). The remote is #RM-MC37LT, and I'm looking around for a cheap replacement, but none seem to list the 610 as compatible, probably because they don't incorporate the tuner. Is there a substitute that would work with the 610, preferably backlit (I believe some 610 units include backlit remotes)? I'd hate to spend more on the same model if it's just going to break down again. Also, is there a way to extend the life of MD/CD remotes? I'm guessing the wire just wears down in time, and it makes the idea of an MP3 player much more appealing, but until any of them include AM tuners, I have to stick with MD. Thanks for any help.
  2. When I try optically recording tracks from a particular CD-R (wav format) via a DVD/VCR player, it will correctly record as one track on the MD player and sound fine, but playback will reveal that the song has been split into 20 or so tracks, and deleting every single mark proves difficult. Commercial CDs and another CD-R seem to record fine, so is it something about how the CD-R was made (eg, bit rate or burning software), or is it just the DVD player? Thanks.
  3. I just bought an MZ-NF610 and yeah, the reception is a bit dodgy, especially deep indoors in buildings, malls, etc. But there are places where I can receive FM stations that were, on my other Sony portables, either too weak or were prone to interference from other stations... A mixed bag. If you need radio with a reliable signal at work, you might be better off getting a separate portable radio instead. Also, as far as I can tell, there is no mono/stereo setting. The DX/local setting does help sometimes, though. And if there are any other tips for improving reception, I'd love to hear them.
