Yes, but not for netMD - it is encoded in the software. Which is why people like me can't write decent 3rd party programs for netmd: the API is hidden behind all the ATRAC patents.

The publicity suggests that the device supports the portable-storage standards; which would mean it would work on a mac (and linux!) I'm interested in the technical side of this - how is handling track storage now, is that handled by the same thing (allowing a mixture of music and files on the same disk) etc.; I'd imagine that this isn't the case. Oh, how I wish Sony would move the ATRAC encoder onto the drives and off the software!
