  1. I would try to find out the "self-noise" specs on what you have and what you are looking at. The higher the number the more noise included in your recording. I would try to stay anywhere under 15 for self-noise.
  2. Just got in my battery operated phantom supply module and tried line in and not enough power so tried the mike in and it worked perfectly. Just had a few minutes to try it out this morning but the quick recording I made came out great. Thanks again to all that answered.
  3. Does anyone know if I can use condenser mikes into a phantom power supply and then go from that straight inot the MD either via the line or mike in. This is not a mixer but just a phantom power supply module. Thanks, guru
  4. Would love to see right and left recording level controls!!!
  5. Yes I know what a mixer is and own 3 or 4 of them. Looking for something that might let me bypass the mixer and just straight from the mike to the minidisc.
  6. Does anyone know of a device that will let me control the left and right volumes while recording with mikes? Is there somekind of device that I can plug my mike into and then plug into the recorder? Thanks, Van
  7. Does anyone know if you can use active monitors with MD? I was wondering if you can go from headphone out to active monitors. Have recently heard some that I really like but don't want to buy them until I can get a straight answer. Thanks!!
  8. I recently recorded myself playing the organ while accompanying a vocalist. The dynamics were from very soft to extremely loud. I use my Sound Pros through the mic in and was extremely happy with the results. Recorded the program at a 16 setting on my 800 Hi-MD. No added sound at all.
  9. No. I'm very happy with my 800. What I'm more interested will be either a Hi-MD home deck or a Hi-MD boombox.
  10. Looking to purchase a 2.1 powered speaker system. Will be mainly used to play my minidisc. I mainly listen to classical music. Looking for something with power, has bass and treble controls and has great requency response. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Price range is pretty up in the air. Thanks
  11. What kind of microphone are you running into this machine. The mike can make a difference. Some mikes have more self noise than others. Please give us more info and then maybe we can help. Peace
  12. More fault. I wasn't deleting everthing correctly. Sorry and thanks for everyones help.
  13. I've done that but they still show up on your program. Is there any way to delete these from your program? Thanks
  14. After using marcnet's conversion tool is there any way to delete the files after you use the find button? I have files that I no longer need and would like to get rid of these. Thanks, classicalnut
  15. Both of these items are in great condition. No longer need to be portable so selling these items at the great price of $200 for both. Any questions or interest please PM me. Thanks
  16. None of the Hi-MD units have optical out so this would not work for me. Thanks anywat.
  17. Hey Kaotic how is it done digitaly even in real time? Dex thanks for you answers too. I have a feeling that besides going optical in into the Mac there is no digital transfer and Hi-MD as to this time doesn't offer optical digital outs. Thanks. Van
  18. I have the opportunity to get a really good MAC computer at a very cheap price. It would be used only for recording purposes. I have heard that Hi-MD and MD in general don't get along. Will this be waste of time and money? I'm sure this issue has come up before but couldn't find anything in a search. Thanks in advance, Van
  19. Has anyone compared the quality of Hi-MD to DAT? Was wondering which sounds better. Will NOT give up my HI-MD though.
  20. I have given copies to the five different directors and the head director is going to use my copy to send off and have copies made for a fund raiser. The SROs I bought about four years ago and they ran me about $300 each. I almost sould them a while back but was glad I didn't. One of the pieces that the choir did had a lot of different peecussion in it (I was playing on that one) and couldn't watch my levels but the mikes handled the extra bass quite well.
  21. Both the AD20 and PS2 are in great shape. Asking $300.00 or best offer. Payable via UPS C.O.D. either cash or money order. PM me for more info. Thanks, Van
  22. Just to let you guys know of my latest recording adventure. My son is in a children's choir and I recorded their latest concert this past Sunday. I decided to pull out my 2 Earthworks SRO microphones, ran them through my new ART DPS II and then went optical out to optical in on my HI-MD 800. All I can say is WOW I got the best recording I have ever made. Uploaded and then burned to cd and people who have listened have been very impressed. Thanks to everyone for all the tips and tricks and hope everyone keeps recording. Have a great Holiday Season, peace, Van
