  1. I did a quick search for your Sony microphone and found this comments on Amazon: Seems to me, from this comment, you could use a more sensitive microphone. Any chance of adding a mixer? That's what I do, whenever possible, for live recording. I'm fond of my Behringer which then gives me phantom power and a whole better quality-level of microphones. And, of course, seperate mics for lead vocals and another for the band, which, in my experience, is the single biggest help for field music recording. I double-up one microphone on the lead singers mic stand (I have a double clip for the stand) and then aim a stereo microphone at the whole band. It sounds much better than just one stereo mic. Usually, I can find a power outlet, somewhere, but when I can't, Behringer has a battery-powered mixer which I own but can't fully endorse since I haven't field-used it yet. Behringer UB1002 Mixer
  2. Am I the only one who thinks the older model looks cooler? In a geek chic sort of way? I love all the buttons and jacks.
  3. I don't have any real torture-test stories but I've dropped them a bunch of times and a few times had that little metal thing pop off. Each time I popped it back on and it kept working.
  4. I haven't followed the label too closely. The most recent one to get errors was a Sony. I have a bunch of cheapie discount MDs from Japan branded "DAISO" (like their Dollar Store) and none of them have failed. Of course, it occures to me that it could be my MD player. I'm not sure, since some disks keep playing perfectly while some disks keep getting errors. I should also mention that I have about 10 disks that I use over and over and over again. It is my habit to listen to the radio "time shifted," so some disks have been used many times, even for years.
  5. Even though my MDs are more dependable than any other media I use -- even VHS or audio cassettes -- they do seem to fail now-and-again. I've had maybe three that have done so. None seems to be because of age.
  6. I have an MP3 player or two and they're OK but NOTHING beats my MD players for time-shifting audio. The ease of line-in recording and the "mark track" button for bookmarking have yet to be beat by any MP3 players I've seen at any price. ] My favorite model is my Sony sports model. It's a tough little sucker. I lost mine in London and grieved until I found another seemingly-brand-new one on eBay for $35. Sweet. with a bunch of MDs thrown in!
  7. "Magic Gate" -- you're kidding me! I never would have guessed that! When I try to use Sonic Stage, I tend to think Mighty Garbage. Having such a weird name seems fitting for software that could easily be the most poorly designed on my computer. I have been using computers since the old Atari/Commodore/CPM/Apple II days so I'm hardly a slouch and I've given SonicStage a fair shake, figuring I'd get over some hump in the learning curve. But I literally can't use it. I mean I just can not accomplish the tasks I want to do. I've tried several times and I just give up -- very angry at Sony! So, I end up using my MD as a glorified tape recorder. At least it works well that way. -BC
  8. What does the term "OpenMG" mean? What is "Open" about it? "MG" = ?? The help file on my software doesn't say and I had no luck Googling it. Thanks! -BC
