  1. The N1 is a problem unit, and many were built using a bad optical block which causes problems (like yours) after about a year of use. Unfortunately, the cost for repair usually isn't very economical and it would be better to just get a new portable. Hopefully this isn't your situation, but there are many who are members of this club. The motor noise you are describing is the buffer and it is normal.
  2. I have a Sony MZN1. Recently it developed an odd problem. When I’m recording, it will go into “TOC EDIT” and stay there and make clicking sounds and won’t come out. It will actually remain in this mode until the battery goes dead or I eject the battery. I actually have to take the battery out to get it out of the "TOC EDIT" mode. And then I lose everything I just recorded. It doesn’t do it all the time but at least 50% of the time. Any ideas on what part/parts need to be replaced??? Thanks in advance! Dan Baronio
  3. I swear that everything you just said describes my MZN1 exactly! This must be a common defect with this unit. I hope someone out there can tell us what the problem is and how it can be addressed. Or what part needs to be replaced. d
