Can SonicStage convert MP3 to ATRAC without downloading to MD? Say I have 1000 songs saved as MP3, can I use SonicStage to convert them ALL to ATRAC, walk away from the computer or a few minuets/hours/days and come back to a reformatted music list? Or, do I have to convert each song by recording it to the MD player and then resaving it to the computer as ATRAC? Brian

That's GREAT! Please do tell us how it goes with the Virtual PC/MD interface. I got my Powerbook last week, but the delayed release of the Hi-MD units gives me a couple of months before I'll be making the MD decision. I hope Sonicstage works with Virtual PC, even if it is slow (and expensive, as I'll have to shell out for VPC as well as the MD, but oh well). Thanks again for trying this out! Brian

It seems like Sony is, unfortunately, giving a negative answer here. I, like many others, am ready to buy a HiMD device if I can get it to work on a Mac, with or without virtual PC. So, to clarify the terms of the debate for all those folks who are insisting that it "should" work: when folks ask the Mac/MD question, we are looking for a "definitive" answer before we shell out $300 for a HiMD, $200 for Virtual PC, etc. Given all the confusion, I am wondering if anyone out there knows the answer. "Knows" = "Yes, it will work; I am sitting here typing as I listen to my MD player playing songs I just got off my Mac." Don't get me wrong. I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL THE ATTEMPTS TO HELP HERE. Moreover, I know next to nothing about the advanced software/hardware topics that many of you seem to be so well versed in. That being the case, the various Mac/MD threads here have only served to confuse me, and have convinced me that many others here are confused as well. WITH ALL HUMILITY, thanks again for your help; but does anyone have a REALLY DEFINITIVE answer to the Mac/MD compatibility issue. Will Mac users be able to use HiMD technology on their Mac computers?

Hey folks. After much thought, I am ready to throw down the cash for an MD. I would like to get a Sony MZ-NHF800, however... I am also getting a new laptop this summer and for a variety of reasons too lengthy to go into here, I have decided to go with an Apple 12" Powerbook. So... I guess I have a problem. Is there ANY way for me to get the MZ-NHF800 to be compatible with a Mac? ANY way? I really would like this combination as I have come to the conclusion that Ipods suck (for me) and PC computers suck (again, for me). I am definitely not as hack-savy as many folks on this site, but I am willing to go to some lengths to make this work. Any help would be appreciated. Brian PS--OK, If it helps... The reason I want the MZNHF800 is (1) 1GB disks, (2) much longer battery power than an Ipod (for use on backpacking trips), (3) the ability to record things off the web via the optical cable (my understanding is that this will allow real time recording of any sound made by the computer), (4) AM/FM so I can listen to NPR while I ride my bike to work in the morning. The reason I want a Powerbook is (1) less problems with viruses corrupting the book I am working on, (2) photo and video editing (I'm an amature here), (3) Ichat use for speaking to relatives overseas... Again, thanks for any help that may be offered.
