  1. I own the MDREX90's and they are great, except in the noise isolation area.I use them on the bus and they don't hide the noise to well. They sound beautifully clear though.I was thinking of switching to the new Sennheiser CX400's because they offer better noise canceling performance.Just wondering if anyone has tried them both and compared them.I don't want to lose the MDR-EX90's great sound, but would like some better noise suppression, and maybe even a little more bass response.Thaks in advance...
  2. Onkyo don't make this unit anymore. It was a 2004 only model.Anyways, pm me and we can do a deal! Jeremy
  3. This very cool device changes a USB plug on your PC into an optical digital output, allowing you to listen to the DVD's, BLU-Ray and music files through the digital input on your stereo. It makes DVD's especially sound much better in digital format as opposed to the analog output of most PC's.Comes complete in box with optical cable, all packaging, instructions and software! The best part about this unit is that you can play copy protected CD's in your CD-rom drive, but by the time the sound goes through this optical adapter, the copy protection will disappear, so you can make digital copies onto MD no problem!
  4. Some fancy new Pioneer earbuds revelaed today.Look pretty spiffy! Maybe they'll give the Sony MDREX700's some competiton. Here's the details: http://www.akihabaranews.com/en/news-14916...om+Pioneer.html
  5. Forgive my ignorance, but I was wondering if someone knows how to record in non-Group mode using the MZRH1 & MD simple Burner. You can turn off Group mode in MZRH1 menu, but it seems to only work for line in/optical recording, not usb...thanks for the help!
  6. I'm switching to only Hi-MD equipment and software, so all my classic legacy MD products are up for sale. They all come in original boxes, with all accessories, and all work perfectly. Here's the list: Sony CMT-M333NT micro system with very cool M-crew computer control software, scale factor edit etc... Sony MDS-PC2 recorder with digital in and out, digital recording adjustment and PC control. Sharp MDDS30 in light blue with HPMD33s earphones
  7. Ever since i got my Onkyo XB-8(W) last month I've been on a quest to find a small matching sub woofer to hook up to it's sub pre-out. The most important factor was finding one that had a glossy white finish to match the speakers. I've browsed the websites of every speaker manufacturer that i could think of, and had found lots of great subs, but most were way overkill for a micro system and hardly any were in glossy white, until yesterday, when one of the sales reps at my store told me he just started to rep Monitor Audio and they had exactly what I was looking for. For those of you who have an Onkyo XB-8(, they also have it available in glossy black! Incidentally, looks like the two and a half year run of the XB-8 is over. It is no longer on Onkyo's website. What a shame. They only show the two models they released earlier this month. Here's the link to the Monitor Audio R360 Sub woofer available in 5 finishes, including glossy white and glossy black. http://www.monitoraudio.co.uk/product.php?...t=30&area=3
  8. I was rummaging around through our drawers of spare or orphaned items at work, and came across this Sony zippered case, meant to hold Handycam 3" DVD-R's in it.It had two internal sleeves used for protecting the DVD-R's, but I took them out, took it home and tried it out for size with my MZ-RH1.Bingo, perfect fit. It's like it was made for it, it even has the Sony logo on it, it just needs the MD logo instead of the handycam one. Here's a pictorial of it so other members can see what I'm talking about.Very cool, you can even still read the display with 2 sides of it closed!
  9. I was rummaging through my drawers of industry souvenirs today (I've been a retail electronics salesman for 15 years now, and probably will be for the rest of my life, and yes I sold a ton of MD stuff back in it's heyday in 1999), and came up with the idea of starting a new thread here, completely devoted to MD accessories and promo items that members have accumulated over the years.I figure that if you got a gift with purchase or a bonus, or any kind of MD related item that came with an MD hardware or accessory purchase, then post a picture of it here. The obvious rules should be that the item has to have the MD logo on it, and/or was free with an MD purchase.I'd be more than happy to start the thread with my items, so that people get an idea of what I am talking about.I'm sure we can come up with many unique and unusual items from around the world over MD's 15 year history! Looking forward to lot's of pictures and memories.I hope this thread doesn't already exist, I couldn't find it anywhere. A Caselogic MDC2 MD case, with the MD logo emblazoned across it and although you can't see it, the zipper handles have the Sony W. walkman logo on them! It was free with selected MD recorders during Christmas 2002 in Canada. A "Sharp Music New World" promotional pre-recorded playback only MD from 1993, with 6 tracks of pop, jazz and classical music on it.I got it at a Sharp dealer Show in 1997. A Caselogic Clear plastic carrying case came with 10 assorted colour blank MD's in 2002.
  10. Sony press releases today for 4 new micro systems, 3 with MD, 1 without.Still no Hi-MD though, and no world band tuner either, so it's for those lucky and spoiled Japanese only, they have so many cool products to choose from, while the rest of the world can only drool. Here's the links: http://www.sony.jp/CorporateCruise/Press/200709/07-0911C/ http://www.sony.jp/CorporateCruise/Press/200709/07-0911B/ They also finally released a new MP3 walkman with 8gb and noise cancelling earphones, something they've never had before. Can't tell if it supports atrac though, may be someone who reads Japanese can find out! Enjoy! I just confirmed that the new MP3 walkmans coming out in October will do atrac and work with sonicstage, so atrac it still breathes life, luckily!
  11. Up for sale is my seldom used Sony MDS-PC2 deck.Comes in original box with PC link and remote and software. From what I can see, this was on of only 2 Mini sized MD decks to offer digital out and digital recording volume adjustment. It has a few minor scratches, but overall very good shape. The person I bought it from says this model will occasionally lock up and needs to be unplugged to reset itself.I'm not sure if it is inherent to this model or just this unit, but I never had this happen. It always worked perfectly for me. If any one is interested please make me an offer!
  12. love your cute profile picture every time i see it.your profile is empty apart from that, not sure if it's really what member "sector001" looks like.maybe that's your spy name, sounds like the kind of name a secret agent would use.
  13. Cool, Thanks. Which colour MZ-EH70 do u have and do u have any pics of the remote and player together? That's the exact setup I'm thinking of.I'm thinking of the silver one, that way I'll get a white remote instead of another black one which I would get with the silver MZ-EH50.I have an MZ-RH1, so I don't need another black remote.
  14. Yesterday Onkyo released 2 new bookshelf micro systems, both with Hi-MD, but sadly without world band tuners.Nce looking units, in traditional Onkyo styling. The difference between them appear to be the speakers, and slightly more output power on upper model.Nice to see that Onkyo is still supporting Hi-MD in late 2007.Sony should learn a lesson and make some home, car and bookshelf units to add to their portable ones. Here's the link: http://www2.jp.onkyo.com/what/news.nsf/vie...fr?OpenDocument
  15. Well I've been using MD since 1997.Back then, you couldn't adjust the recording level on digital recording, so all your MD's had songs at different levels. Then in 1999, they came out with digital recording levels, so you could play around with the recording level to make a more even sounding MD.I could still not get some MD's to have the same level on all songs, given the "HOT" CD disease that struck a few years ago, and has since become an unfortunate epidemic. Then I've noticed since about 2005, most decks give you greater adjustment than before when recording. They allow greater + or - values before that dreaded clip indicator shows up.So you can increase old CD's volume levels dramatically without distortion and you can diminish newer hotter CD's to achieve a more uniform sounding MD, when you are recording from different CD's.At the moment I'm re-recording my MD compilations in Hi-MD Hi-SP format using my new Onkyo XB-8.It gives way more room in + and - values than any other deck I own.I still find it difficult to make a perfect recording however, my ears aren't perfect. The unit does have a peak search function, but I found it to be worse than my own hearing at determining proper levels. I was really hoping someone knew some sort of trick or had some tips on getting a perfect sounding MD compilation.Any advice would be great.Perhaps a computer software program exists that will analyze different CD's and tell you what to set each of them at to get that perfect even volume level on all tracks. Looking forward to everyone's input and thoughts on the matter. Thanks!
  16. I just noticed that Sony Japan just posted a new pair of top of the line earphones, a new pair of headphones and some fancy active speakers. The earphones have a large 16mm driver facing sideways and come with 7 different sizes of earbuds and cost 36,750 Yen! They make the MDREX90's look pretty basic. The Headphones appear to have some sort of reflective design to give a more open sound, and are 55,650 Yen.They both look pretty unusual. The speakers look very cool and have a long tube to enhance bass.I wish I could read Japanese. They have interviews with the designers.Perhaps a multilingual member could post a brief explanation of what they are all about. Here are the links:
  17. Hi There, Please forgive me if this has already been asked, but is the RM-MC40ELK remote compatible with the 2005/current crop of MD players, namely the MZ-EH50 and the MZ-EH70? Aslo, was wondering if anyone knew if these players were discontinued and stores are the only ones with stock, or are they soldiering on in to the future as the current models, even though they came out 2 years ago. Thanks for the info!
  18. I own one and love it.I just wish the recording level adjustment wasn't so weird.I think a new version should have the following functions: bluetooth for headphones docking station with bluetooth for wireless music transfer to and from computer, digital output, and wireless remote control noise canceling headphones scale factor edit for hi-md better md simple burner software like m-crew, with complete control over all functions of the unit from computer more colours available aa battery case matching set of powered speakers for docking station clear stereo clear bass organic display with jacket cover on remote and docking station, where you can assign cover art to md on computer and have it displayed.(M-Crew allows you to assign cover art to MD's, very cool) better battery life function that pauses the unit when it hears listeners cell phone ringing touch screen operation (JVC had a unit like this years ago) Ok, so I got a bit carried away, but I still think Sony should pull out all the stops and come out with a real fancy machine with all the features listed above, as a last hurrah for MD.I think most forum members would buy one.I certainly would!
  19. I didn't label the surge protector, it came that way. They do give you labels for your power cords though, so you can colour co-ordinate them to the plugs!
  20. I just got back to Vancouver from my first ever trip to Japan to visit my Japanese Girlfriend I met here. Before going I did lots of research on MD micro systems, since I wanted to buy a new one as a souvenir. I settled on the Onkyo XB-8 since it was the only one I could find with a world band tuner, and it had all the features I wanted like 4 timers, optical in/out, subwoofer out and HI-MD to boot. I walked into the Yodobashi Camera in Sapporo, and browsed their large selection, but tragically no XB-8. I got my girlfriend to do the translating and asked if they carried it.To my amazement, they had a clearance on the model with glossy white speakers. Apparently Onkyo was clearing out the white colour and was only going to make it in black. My timing was spot on, they had one left new in a box for the almost unbelievable price of 19,800 Yen, or about $183 Canadian Dollar$! needless to say, I bought it on the spot, and transported it back to Canada.I got a $35 voltage transformer for it and it is working perfectly. The manual is only in Japanese, but the functions are all in English. I trying out the various features. It's got some very cool functions. The nicest one is the automatic peak search function. It analyzes the various CD's you record from, and sets the digital recording level automatically! I'm currently doing listening tests to see if it works as well as my ear at judging levels between different CD's.The only downside to all this is that it might mean all my current MD equipment will become obsolete if I convert everything to Hi-MD.
