Is there anyway to record to the minidisc (from VCR etc, NOT the PC) and convert the track from ATRAC to MP3 or something so you can send a track you recorded from a stereo onto the MD, straight to the PC through the USB cable. I have tried but it won't let me check it in.

The "line out" function is for playing the music through a powered amplifier. If you connect the MD to an amplifier, use the "line out" function because it sets the volume to max and flattens the bass and treble. This is because amplifiers have the ability to change the bass treble and probably other effects internally. -EDIT- I did the hack and it perfectly worked. Thanks
