  1. Thanks, KJ. That's illuminating. I was under the impression that there were new restrictions on recording, in the HI_MD units, based upon the voluminous ranting in the Q and A thread. :wacky: It's confusing. Frankly though, unless I run into a motherlode of dosh, it is unlikely that I will be buying a HI-MD any time soon. LP4, with five hours of music on a disc, is fine for me. Although it would be great to have 40 hours on a disc. I'm a long distance cyclist, and I wouldn't have to carry additional discs. But what if the single disc I take malfunctions? Then I'm screwed. I think I'll just siphon up some of the MZ/R900s that get dumped on Ebay. Of course what would be really rocco is a Qualia HI-MD. Yow! Sweeet!
  2. Nietzsche. You didn't address my key concern though. Will I be able to record via optical all the CDs my friends have ripped for me? I mean, tunage that has been "swiped?" Thanks. C
  3. Greetings. A few questions and lamentations. Does HI-MD have an optical line in that can be hooked up to a CD player? I primarily just dub CDs onto discs for playing on my bike. I use ATRAC4 mostly. That compression language is fine for the sound quality I need. How many hours of this particular sound quality can be fit on a HI-MD disc? The thread discussing hacks and hardware fixes to get around Sony's ridiculous attempts to protect their product is both fascinating and dismaying. I looked forward to dubbing all the CDs my friends have burned for me over the years. I won't be able to do it, will I? I'm just going to keep wearing out MZ/R900s, if that is the case. Five hours of music on a dollar disc? HI-MD, I think, is inferior to the previous generations, if you can't copy whatever you want. Thanks Light a fire, keep a man warm for a night.
