Is there playlist support in SonicStage and the units? ie if you create 2 playlists with the same song in them, when you transfer to Hi-MD will the song be transferred once or twice?
-
I tried it with a NH600D and it worked. Anyone know if it works with the HDD players?
-
I have a NH1 - I am going to wait to see if these MD units have playlist support, what SonicStage will look like, and whether the next generation of NW-HD has playlist support.
-
I want playlists! And for Sonicstage to do the automatic playlist thingy based on how often you listen to a song etc
-
Where did the original information about the new models come from? Can't find a press release anywhere online.
-
Maybe CEBIT in Germany which is in March I think.
-
They look very similar to the still-born AIWA USB flash players. I wonder if they are the same, in Sony clothing.
-
I'm impatient hehe....any news?
-
Are you sure? The PSP device is a read-only device. It does have a memory stick slot and you can transfer video, atrac and mp3s to that to listen to.

Do you know that before you do a disk reformat, you should use SonicStage's backup process to copy your music library? Then after you have reformatted your drive, use the SonicStage restore process to restore the library. These are commands that you can execute from within SonicStage.

Not sure if I'm reading your post correctly, but the process for using the WAV converter is: 1. Record an analog recording on Hi-MD device. 2. High-speed upload of recording to SS. The resulting upload is in OMA format and has DRM. 3. Use WAV converter to convert this recording to a WAV file with no DRM restrictions. The downside to the recording method you describe is that it is a real-time upload, so it takes longer.

Judging from the Japanese press release, the MP3 transfer functionality on SS 2.3 will not work with the flash-based network walkmans
-
Of course there are the other disadvantages for ipod - battery life and size. Playlists and itunes are a big plus for the ipod.
-
No - if your file was ripped to the PC in LP2, then it will transfer to a Hi-MD formatted disc as such - no further conversion.
-
Yes it does - I have tried it. I think maybe the only thing that doesn't work is going into the menu on the remote - but I can't quite remember.
-
Let us know whether your minidisc recorder is a Hi-MD model or not - tell us the model number. Also, you say you have the recording on your computer - how did you get it there? Can you locate the file that is on your computer? Is it already in a *.wav format?
-
SS 2.0 doesn't have support for OMA PCM, only SS 2.1 and later support ripping CDs to OMA PCM for transfer to Hi-MD
-
Is the file ripped from a CD, or is it originally an MP3? And is it all files on that computer, or just some songs.
-
On the flip side, I think possibly a more accurate perspective is that the components in minidisc, such as the amps etc are optimised to deal with the style of sound that results from atrac decoding. I think it would be fair to say that as a total package, all the components that make up a minidisc player have been tweaked to work together best.

Isn't musicmatch available free to try?

I cannot see any marks on my NH1 at all. I have had it since August I think.
-
I would say that Sony are still making a profit on their bundle. In HK, the NH1 price converts to about $490 AUD, but in HK it's rare to have sales/discounts, and the only bonus I got when I bought mine was a Hi-MD carry case. It didn't come with a 1GB disc though (which cost $51HK - $AUD 9).

mikehend: are you using SS 2.0 or SS 2.2? If you are using SS 2.0, you need to upgrade to SS 2.2, then use the file conversion tool (which comes with SS 2.2) to change your uploaded file from a *.omg file to a *.oma file. Don't worry, there is no transcoding done here, they just change the DRM wrapper. Then you should be able to use the Sony WAV converter to convert your uploaded tracks.

Now that Hi-MD can playback PCM, it may be possible to get all formats played back on a MD. Firstly, encode your music to the different formats. Then burn them to a CD in CD audio format, and record them into a Hi-MD at PCM quality. Then in essence you have the tracks in their different formats all on the MD.

You could always download the program and trial it and see if it will work for you?
