Are you saying that what I am attempting to do, my goal, my vision, can be accomplished by using a Hi-MD device? Transfering the recorded tracks via USB?

What if I emply something else? You are telling me that there is no way to transfer the audio via USB as a file? As if it were a WAV? The only way to get the "file" off of the MD is analog or digital 1:1:?

I will preface my tale with a brief explanation of my life before I acquired a Sony MS-N510 Type S. I am a professional drummer and percussionist. Performing all over the country in a variety of touring groups. I've been using my old reliable Sharp MDS-702 with it's long burnt out rechargeable battery. Recording either direct off the board or room mics through pre-amps. Never had any problems. The unit still functions great. However to get the audio into my editing system I need to play from the device and record on the hard drive. Using the 1/8" stereo TRS output to the sound card 1/8" stereo TRS input. An additional stage that bothered me. I learned about the new MD devices on the market that would allow me to transfer the audio to the hard drive as an audio file. Enter the N510. It started out innocently enough. Install the software that comes with it and copy over the audio files from my latest live MD recordings. After abandoning Sonic Stage 1.5U for version 2.0 (official release of files from post in this forum) I have had nothing but unexplainable failures in my plan. After three different OS's, I still can not copy the live MD recordings made with both the MDS-702 and other MD recorders. Multiple installs on the following platforms. Each install was wiped by using the software removal wizard and then sweeping the reg and removing all the keys. > Installed 2.0 on Windows Server 2003 (Direct X 9.0b) * CAN NOT transfer library to device. * CAN NOT transfer previously recorded live tracks from device to library. = Application crashes. Server 2003 Error report is generated. > Installed 2.0 on Windows 2000 Pro (SP2) (Direct X 9.0) * CAN transfer library to device. * CAN NOT transfer previously recorded live tracks from device to library. = Application does not crash. Application error windows pop-up reads "An error occurred while transferring. Unable to transfer to the computer" > Installed 2.0 on Windows 2000 Pro (SP4) (Direct X 9.0) = Same results as Windows 2000 Pro (SP2) (Direct X 9.0) USB cable was tried both connected to the computer through a powered hub then direct to the computer. This did not alter the results. ** QUESTION ** Has anyone had these problems? Has anyone tried to transfer MD content to the hard drive that was previously recorded on the disc? I have not tested a recording made to the disc with the NetMD transferring to the hard drive. The device cost me a total of $100 with shipping. It will replace my MDS-702 for life recordings because it does have newer recording formats and can run for quite some time on an inexpensive AA battery. All is not lost expect for the hours of time spent researching the afore mentioned scenario. Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide any information. Alexander Rea
