It's a broken unit, but someone may find it useful as spares or whatever. I'm not at home right now so I can't post any pictures but I will be able to do so (as well as shipping) as of 5th Jan 05. Cosmetically it's in average condition, if not above average. It was stored in the carrying case at all times. 3 of the 4 side Screws have come off on the top-panel which have magically disappeared. Apparently it's a common "wear-and-tear" damage according to SONY, many of my friends were also affected, as were the reviews I read on the net. Earphone port also seems to be dodgy, but im sure someone can repair that, or otherwise use the "good" parts which I believe are all-but-earphone components. Sorry im not very techy, hence the sale and also due to my upgrade to HiMD. I will do my best to answer all questions, and any offers are appreciated through this thread or via email: ishiiyuto [at] hotmail [dot] com. It's great for anyone out there who just need spare parts, or fix-to-sell, etc. I will also be advertising this product locally so i may withdraw the offer at any time. Sales and Postage from the UK. I believe I've lost the box for this product, but will greatly decrease the shipping costs. AC adapter should be available as will be the remote control (slightly scratched but fully functional) and other bits such as USB cable and the original battery. I shall update when I get back and check that ive still got all those bits. Thanks for viewing!

My opinions (NH3D owner) Do I like it: I do now, when I was able to get my 1gb disc and Sonic Stage working on my eng.pc to make full use out of it. Recording in Atrac3+ LP2 or whatever its called, sound quality is good. I should be able to get 30+ hours of music on which is another good thing. Also acts as an removable drive, which should come useful once 1gb discs are widely available. The 3-line remote i got is very nice once you get used to it, but potential to easily being scratched. - Is it a sufficient improvement on MD to survive in the current market? Possibly not, netMD has been a great hit and any LP compatible MD player can play it, like car stereos with MD. HIMD is too new at the moment, which cant be used on cars or any of the existing MD stereo (i believe) which limits the market. - What has it got over HDD players in general that swung you to buy one? Did you compare before you bought, or was it more or less an automatic purchase because you were a past MD user? More or less an automatic purchase because I was a past MD user for about 6 years. I did consider iPOD mini though, along with some other less-known HDD players but I just like the idea of ability to get new discs if i run out of space, in theory i will be able to have more than what the HDD limits. That is, of course, when HIMD media comes out widely. - Would you recommend it to your friends looking for 'an MP3 player' bearing in mind it's limitations? And why? Dont know to be honest, it depends on whether they can bear with convertings and all that. I guess I would, with warnings about the conversion requirements which could potentially put them off. - Did Sony treat you right? Did your shop treat you right? Did the shop try to mislead you in any way about Hi-MD? Sony treated me right i guess, it did what it said on the box. Would have been nice to have a world-wide voltage adapter though. Shop i bought it from was a major japanese retail (yamada-denki) and they were very honest, although to be fair i didnt ask much questions as I had already done plenty of research prior to goin to the shops. - What in your opinion could Sony do to raise the public awareness of Hi-MD? (Bearing in mind that the ads aren't having much impact) TV ads would definately help, to be honest none of my friends know about HiMD so i have to explain about it each time. Of course, as they havent heard of it, they dont trust it as much as more widely known netMD, which i think most people have. Even making it publicly widely available would be nice, but i am sure that is to come along soon.

Juelz said MZN1. NH1 doesnt come in Blue.

Broken n707 if you're interested. 3 out of 4 screws lost on the front panel, so the front panel is loose. headphone unit (presumely) broken, no matter what earphone you try the sound is very distorted, although it still plays music. hit me up on PM if you're interested.

has it?? Isnt the stand same as what you get on NH3D, in which case it hasnt got USB connection.

I got it from 'Yamada Denki' in Japan. They're fairly big chain retail store. According to xe.com, its $307.

its slightly heavier i guess... but its nothing that really affects functionality. the earphones... well its the one which came with the MD, coz thats the only one I have. Maybe its not a fair comparison, but I tested out Auvi using the same earphone.

hey all, i finally got my Sony NH3D at last, well i got it last sunday but my harddrive of my laptop died the same day, just repaired it other day. This review is also posted on Tboard but I thought it might be beneficial to be on here too. anyway, it's a BLUE one i got. Silver felt too dark for what i like, and the blankness of the front panel made it too boring but Blue was perfect. I like the colour. Sound quality wise, its good but not as good as Auvi i tried out... as everyone probably knows. It was surprising at first, being a migrant from old gen NetMD N707 to NH3D where when you press the SOUND button, its different. In N707, it was just NONE, SOUND 1, SOUND 2. In NH3D, i finally figured out that it was NORMAL, SURROUND, SOUND. NORMAL sounds crap. There are a few modes in Surround which took me a while to realise, and likewise with SOUND mode. I found it weird how it makes the playback stop/silent when changing from one to another. It also took me a while playing around with the 6 band equaliser thing in SOUND mode, but in the end I just made full bass and treble, so full on the either ends and 0 for the middle 4. To be honest, the preset default ones do not do any good to music. - The custom one I made brings out the best sound for my liking, which is good enough i guess. The Remote - well, I like it now. The build quality doesnt feel good, but then it is SONY. Beware though, light scratches can go on the remote easily, ive already got a few which can be seen at an angle in some lighting conditions. Backlight is a must-have feature now for me, so I can see it in dark. However, under some lighting conditions, I find it hard to view the text, despite changing around the contrasts. At darkness, its fine, although more contrasty text would have been good. The main roller thingy is fun to use, but it would be good if you can control PLAY/STOP by pressing the button too, somehow, as well as VOLUME control. Am I asking too much? I guess I am. The bottons that control playback on the bottom of the remote is firm and fair enough. FF/REW buttons are funky to use and I like it. The PLAY button is in the middle, and also functions as PAUSE. To be honest, I'd have prefered if this was STOP instead. Volume buttons doesnt feel too good when using it, i prefer the N707 remote style where you can semi-rotate that thing on the end. Size-wise of this remote is better than I thought, and rather small. The Unit - it's very solid, apart from the OPEN lever on the top where shaking the unit makes some rattling noise. SONY style. Feel of the unit is good, but kinda heavy which is a pretty good thing i guess, proof of solid material. The sides are very blank, just a rectangular battery/USB slot on the bottom, just headphone/remote slot on the right, nothing but rattling OPEN lever on the top. On the left, its the black bit with some limited control buttons. They are crap. Buttons dont feel good for your fingers, especially the VOL+-/FF/FR 4 way nav stick which just hurts, and difficult to direct the stick to the way you want. I dont use this section, so I just have HOLD on all the time on the Unit. SONY Logos are nicely positioned. The Battery - Battery life is indeed poor. Good thing is that the remote can show approx how many hours the life has left, but bad thing is that its very inconsistant. One moment it shows 14 hours, next it shows 8. Maybe this will be fixed over time when battery gets used to the unit, only time will tell. Either way, power is limited on this unit as you cannot use AA cells. The Li-Ion battery probably helps though, more continuous charging possible i guess, and its light - a positive thing. Other accessories - It comes with a carrying porch thats soft and nice. No belt clip though. Charger is 100V only, so you'll have to have a transformer or compatible 240V input 6V output charger. I bought one myself, tho not made by SONY. Charging Cradle is plasticky, but just a nice something to display your minidisc when not on move. Stupidily, you'll need one wherever you want to charge up. I also bought a HiMD media, at 714YEN. Actually, I got this free technically, because I used RETAIL STORE POINTS. My NH3D costed 34000YEN, they gave me 1000YEN Points on the card, and used that up. I havent used Sonic Stage or anything yet for this unit, but thats about it for now. I like this unit, but hasnt really got a WOW-factor to anywhere. It's just not as I imagined from a near-top range model.

well thanks (although i dunno whether you know me over there affects your monotonious answers. oh and did i do/say something u didnt like??). i only asked here coz no-one answered this question in my thread of 'installing NH3d on english PC' thread, so i came over here thinking this might be more of an active forum. anyway thanks for the input. oh and btw, i did search. Couldnt find the answer though.

Hi, I know NH3D is USB Bus Powered, and when connected it can be powered just by USB. My question is, can USB charge the unit as well? Also, is it possible that Sony will release AA battery case for this model?? Thanks.

Thanks KJ, I'll definately consider that SHARP DR420 as well in that case. I'm not quite sure about the remote though, I want a display on my one. I had a SHARP md ages ago, and that lasted a good chunk of years so i'll definately think they're reliable. I shall avoid 710 in this country, I looked at japanese store websites and couldnt find 710 on their list but I may just go for N10.

Hi all, first post here and glad to come across from google search. I'm looking for a new netMD player, my N707 gave up on me completely after 3 out of 4 screws holding the front panel disappeared, warranty didnt cover and now its eqpired. Front panel is really loose, and my earphone plug bit is now mysteriously damaged, i have to keep pressure on it to get the sound out from both ears. So after a short life of 1 year 6 months its time for a change unfortunately. Shame coz i quite liked this MD player. I looked at N710, but I heard about some low power of sound? Whats that like compared to my 707? I have a low budget of approx. £130, N710 could be purchased at this cost. But im goin to Japan next week, i looked at their prices and N10 is sold for approx. £150 (i could stretch my budget to this if its REALLY worth it). I shall also visit Tottenham Court Road, London next friday. Any bargains to be had there that might be useful? So what are my best chances? Thanks all. u2o
