Thanks, but I can't use the online installer because of the proxy server, but I found out how to mess around with Artist Link.

The only problem is that if you create big groups they will all appear on the Link and it's not different from a genre shuffle if your music is sorted specifically.

Hello all,

I managed to find an offline installer of SS 4.0, but it's in German!!!

I only need to use it though for Artist Link features as my proxy server won't allow this service through Connect.

Any brief guides on how to use it would be appreciated (my German is not good!).

I've managed to get into the artist link screen and create some groups, but how do I transfer this info to the device?

I want proper proxy server support for CDDB.

This was promised in SSv3.4, but I didn't see any difference.

If Windows Media Player can retrieve info from Gracenote via a proxy server requiring authentication, I'm sure it can't be too difficult for Sony to incorporate this into their software.

Thanks Stuge - I'm not using a firewall, but I access the web through a corporate proxy server which I can't disable (or know how to).

It's just that these SonicStage web installers never work for me, saying that there is no internet connection error 21000, or words to that effect.

Hey Kev, I experienced a similar problem with mine.

Yesterday I played my bookmark list and after pressing "BACK" to choose another song, the spinning disc came on and stayed on for over 5 hours! the bookmark list carried on playing as normal and I could change the volume, but I couldn't get rid of the spinning disc!

I only ever get this problem when I first turn it on after connecting to the PC and try to cycle through all the lists quickly, so maybe the unit needs to "warm up" first.

Any ideas, anyone?

This thread begs the question:

Why on earth would you want to convert MP3 to ATRAC3/3plus???

Converting one lossy format to another lossy format (transcoding) is really not good for quality... Since all you're doing is decreasing the quality of the music/file.

If you have stuff in MP3 already and want those exact files transferred to the player, just transfer the MP3s directly with SS or MP3FM.

If you want to use ATRAC3/3plus it is recommended to do so only via ripping right from the uncompressed/non-lossy source (e.g. the original CD) or from files found on an internet music service offering downloads in ATRAC3/3plus format (e.g. Connect).

For me the only reason to do this is gapless playback.

Hello All,

Although I haven't experienced the massive problems with Connect a lot of people have, I have trouble retrieving CD info from the web.

My internet connection is via a proxy server which requires authentication. If I rip a CD in WM Player, it'll ask me for my username and password and then fill out all the track info.

In Connect and Sonicstage, the Gracenote logo appears asking me to register, but then "Internal Error: HTTP Proxy Authentication Error" appears.

In Sonicstage, there is an option to set the username and password for a proxy server but that does not seem to work either.

Any ideas? Typing out all the track names can get quite repetitive!
