Still I'm curious. Where this explained in the 800 or 900 manuals? I've browsed the manuals and read the section that explains the two record sensitivity level settings, but I saw nothing about setting the record level on the fly.
Don't mean to sound negative, but I sure don't want to dig through menu settings and "Hold the Nav/Menu button" for two seconds. I want to start recording immediately and, if necessary, set the levels via front panel buttons -- like on a Sharp, which is probably what I'll buy.
Unfortunately the Sharps have he nasty problem of dropping out as you cross a magic record level, like 17. Do the Sony HIMDs have this problem?
