  1. My post was up here for days and nobody answered, so i went to Audio Tboard where i got answers within a few hours. In the end, i had made a simple error. But i still got a lot of other info that will help me down the road. So since there were no answers here i didnt bother to post that i had made a plug-in error.
  2. MZ-N10 wont record I have this unit and as far as i know its in great shape, havent even used it all that much. Anyway, my wife has a course she is taking so i bought her a mic (Sony ECM-DSOP (electret condenser mic) that the guy at radio shack said would work real well. I loaded a minidisk and showed her how to set the record button and the stop button. She went to her course and used it. When i see the minidisk in Sonicstage it shows the recording. She stopped it a few times and re-started so there are a few "files?" on the minidisk. One of them is a full 60 minutes. I tried playing this 60 minute file and there is nothing to hear. Can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong? thanks in advance Sony MZ-N10 recorder\player win xp pro sonicstage v3.2
  3. I have the album but it is beyond repair. I am wondering if anyone can help me out. I would really like to get the tracks from this great album. It came out on cd as well. Can anyone out there help me? I tried edonkey and others, no luck. I hope its ok to post this, if not, please delete. You can email me at kron123(at) cogeco.ca thanks
  4. I have the NZ-ME410 and the MZ-N10 and i was reading about the new ss3.3 version that is available here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=9586 I am just a bit confused as it shows where to dload the U.S. version, Asian version, etc. Then, near the bottom, it mentions a Canadian version but there is no download for that. Is that because i am to use the U.S. version? Up to that point i figured to just use the U.S. version, but then it mentions a Canadian version, throws me off a bit. thanks
  5. I heard from Creative yesterday and they tell me it wont work and it dangerous to try as they are likely wired differently. So i guess thats that. Of course Creative will sell me their version of the remote that also has an FM radio on it as well for $50 US. Thanks to those who responded.
  6. thanks for your timely response. you are right, its the remote. They seem to be the same on both units, the connection that is, and the remote fits in nicely in both of them. But i am afraid that Sony has wired theirs so it only works in the Sony and i am worried that it could screw up my zen, so i dont want to take the chance. Its too expensive to replace and i got too good a deal on it, and its too cool looking and 20 gigs!! Dont worry, i still love my minidisk players, give them equal time or more. Sony is still great for sound! I have emailed creative support, so some time in the year 2006 i may have an answer. They will likely say: We dont know the answer, suggest you try some other forum, such as minisdisk.org!!! lol several times.
  7. The headphone cable that fits on my MZ-N10 has the standard connector on it plus another small piece attached to it. I believe it enables the special features that print out what tune one is playing, etc. Have i described the cable enough so that you know what i am talking about? Anyway, it comes with and works fine with the MZ-N10 and it comes with many of the Sony players. The other day i got a creative zen touch 20 gig brand new for less than half price so i couldnt resist. This creative zen touch has a headphone connector on it exactly the same as my MZ-N10 and the cable for the MZ-N10 fits on it fine. But i am afraid to try it out. Would anyone know if i can use this cable on any player equipped with that connection or is the Sony wired differently? I would hate to burn out my zen or the cable for my MZ-N10. thanks
  8. Thanks for the info, the more info i can get the better off i will be.
  9. My mistake, i thought it was your thread. I will just make my own.
  10. greenmachine, thanks for the info. I have been mislead a bit. The Sony MZ-N10 mentions something about mp3's. So i was under the impression i could put mp3's onto a minidisk and play them in my N10. But i found out thats not true and others felt Sony was misleading with that. Sonic still converts mp3 to atrac and there is no getting around that. Not a big deal anyway. Now here is where i could use some info. I got the black plastic attachment for the N10, in which you can put a battery. Can i use a standard alkaline battery in it or does it have to be a rechargeable? Can i use any rechargeable or does it have to be a certain type? If i use the black plastic attachment with a battery in it, can i turn the internal battery off and save it and just use the juice from the black attachment? You can see i am a bit confused about the usage of that black attachment. Maybe it only starts working when the internal battery gets drained and the internal battery has to be on at all times. But then why is there a switch on the back of the N10 to turn the battery off? thanks for the help.
  11. rei-gouki, would you mind if i get in here as well. I have the same unit, but i just got it and i am just learning this stuff? I do have a couple questions in the same area you are talking about, the battery situation. Can i ask them here or should i start my own thread?
  12. okay, i have come up with a few questions. I have the NE410 and the N10. Well, with the NE410 i was able to put tracks on a minidisk. Now and again the battery issue would come up, all i had to do was change batteries, even adding back the original. It seems there is a fast drain that the player notices but when the battery sits for a bit its usable again. Then i used the N10 and it was much better, no battery messages, made a minidisk with some blues on it. My question is: I have noticed there is a thread on replacing the expensive rechargable battery on the NI0. Then i thought of the battery drain when making a disk so i am wondering if i can turn off the built in battery while making a minidisk? Probably not, but i thought i would ask. I am thinking that i dont want to keep draining the battery and end up using the battery up. So maybe i should go back to using regular standard batteries in my NE410 to make minidisks and save the rechargeable in the N10 just for playing. That way maybe i can get away from having to replace the battery? Does this all make sense is what i am asking? The other question is how do make a minidisk of mp3's in my N10. I cant seem to do it in sonic so maybe MD simple burner? I would like to be able to make a minidisk with mp3's from the NE410 because of the battery situation, but i dont think thats possible, right? thanks for the help!! I do appreciate it. I just dont have time for the pdf manual, its even hard to see, gives me a headache.
  13. thanks, i didnt know that info was there until today. I guess i should have pointed out that i dont have a written manual. Only what i have downloaded. I was basically looking for quick replies and hints to help me get started. Also, sometimes users can give you tips and info that you wont find on the manuals. thanks
  14. First, i edited my post when i noticed it was in the wrong place. I moved it over to the correct place. rei-gouki Thanks very much for the info. You were right, i dont have a manual, at least not a written one. The unit i have came with a manual in Japanese. I will have to digest the info you gave me before i can ask any more questions. but you are right about the mic "plug in power" Thanks again. A440 the only manual i have is in Japanese. but i have d\loaded a pdf manual. thanks for the useful info and the links, i will read them. Thanks for the info on simple burner and sonic. I didnt even realize that the one unit, the N10 will do mp3's, so thanks for that info.
  15. I have an MZ-NE410 and now an MZ-N10 As much as i have these units, i dont really know much. I have used Sonic Stage to put music on the minidisks and play them. Thats about all i know. I am trying to learn as much as i can in a short time as possible, so maybe you dont mind helping me a bit? What is the big difference between the 2 units i have? I believe its the fact that the N10 will record and the other wont? If so, what can i record with the N10? Can my wife use it to record at a seminar? Thats what i am hoping it can do. If so, what else do i need? And what other types of recording can i do with this N10? What about the built-in battery with the N10, how long will it last, is it replaceable with a generic battery? Where do i get them? So far i have used sonicstage to convert mp3's to attrac. Is there any special settings i should use beside standard? Can one do a better job making an atrac song from an mp3 using sonicstage or simple burner? Any other info that you can give me to help me along? I know that i should simply read the manual but time is so valuable to me that i have a hard time doing that. I was hoping that i might be able to absord things a bit better this way. thanks very much for any info you are willing to give me.
  16. In canada we have heavy import taxes and I import all the time. The trick is to ask the sender to put a low value on the item. For instance, the actual seller could say that he is returning merchandise that he bought because it is defective. In that case there would be no duties payable. Or, the seller could simply say the items are broken, being sold as is and put a very low value on them. Or, in some countries, the seller could claim it as a gift, again put a low value on it.
  17. Cant seem to find a place to delete this post.

    Wanted: MZ-N10

Actually, i bought a whole unit. However, it wouldnt hurt me to have these extra parts. How about we use email and come up with some arrangements here on your parts. You can email me at kron123 (at) cogeco (dot) ca thanks Levanel, i tried to pm you, doesnt seem to be working at the moment. Would you email me please. thanks
  19. Thanks for the info bland10000. We all make mistakes, its fixing them that counts, and you did that well! So thanks. You did have me going for a while, lol. But with all the info i had to work with, i knew something was wrong there. thanks to A440 for more info. thanks to minidisciskewl for more info. I cured all my ills by buying a whole complete unit over at audio t-board for a very fair price. So now i will essentially have 2 units. The one i have, as stated in my first post, is basically brand new, never even been charged yet. I got it from a friend who bought the whole unit but moved before he got it up and running. When he moved somehow all got lost except for the player itself as that was on his computer desk. The box with the parts in it got lost, sad, i know. So now i will have a brand new unit plus a used unit and all the goodies that went with it, plus a few extra battery cases and other parts, all for a fair price, so i figure i did ok. At least i will be able to get this unit working and have another as a spare. I will be using these when working as they are pretty well built and with the mini-disks i dont think i will be wrecking a hard drive. I have a creative zen touch with 30 gig hard drive. But i wouldnt use that working, or jogging, or anything like that as the units with hard drives are prone to failure if rattled around a lot. So with the Sony units and the zen i will be all set up for any kind of situation. And i can always use my rio500 as well. I want to thank all of you for the help and the info you gave me.
  20. I have an NZ-M10 with no parts to it, nothing but the player. It seems I need the cradle and ac dc adaptor. I am wondering if anyone has the whole set and they want to sell it? I have cash and a very extensive trading record at heatware.com. I would like to trade some computer hardware, software, and cash, if possible, for the NZ-M10. I do have a fair amount of hardware and software. thanks
  21. I set a generic adaptor to 3 volt positive and plugged it in all night, nuthing this morning. Reading the manual i see a small light is supposed to appear and it doesnt. I turned the battery switch on at the back of the unit. I have a question. When you get this unit is the battery already installed or does it have to be installed? Im thinking maybe there isnt a battery inside. I will have to have a look. My post above, where i said 3 volt. Its because someone told me it was 3 volts. But when i read the manual for this unit, it says 6 volt. Also, where am i supposed to be plugging the adaptor into? The only place i can see would be the mic - "lug in power" Im not doing something right! Reading the manual it says the cradle is a 6 volt power connection. But, reading the manual it also says "DC IN 3V jack" Is this DC IN 3volt jack the same one as i mentioned above, the " MIC - plug in power "? Appreciate your help thanks
  22. Now if i can get the parts i need at a reasonable price, i will be all set. thanks for all the info so far!
  23. pic 03 shows the usb port pci 004 shows the rest of the ports or connections second pic shows the usb port, though not very clear first pic shows the rest of the ports or connections hope these are better pics
  24. I'm certainly not trying to be difficult as i would like to get this puppy up and running, but the NE410 i have has a relatively standard looking, very small, nearly square usb connector on it and the N10 that i have has what appears to take a very thin but wide connector, not the same at all. I would be interested in any parts that i could use except for the fact that i have a dozen or so of headphones. Do you think i should take a pic and post it?
  25. Thanks for all the info! For the MZ- N10 I only have the player itself, its silver colored, metal case. I guess i could post a pic if you feel its necessary, but again its only the main unit, i have nothing else, no cradle, no usb connection, nothing. What i need to know is what do i need to get it running properly and perhaps what can i get extra that is worth getting? And, would someone here want to sell me some parts or where can i get the best price for the parts i need? I do have another unit, its the MZ-NE410. I do have all the parts for this one and its working. thanks
