But the battery never had a charge at all, it never worked.? Edit; Will the sony charger work on non-Sony batteries?

Hey everyone, I bought a Sharp 821 off Ebay about two years ago. I had to get it fixed, I don't remember what it was. Anyway, it came without any accessories, or the battery. I bought generic replacements. I have been using the power adapter from my old broken mt15, which is almost the same specs. The mt 15 adapter is 7.5 watts, and the manual for the 821 says it is 7W. The indicator light says its charging, but the battery is dead. Anyone have any idea why the battery will not charge? Thanks, Jay
