  1. I see what you're getting at, but compressing to mp3 isn't like winzipping a data file. There's no way to "uncompress" an mp3. Upon conversion the file looses a lot of data to make it so small, and when you convert it back to wav, you're still dealing with a lossy file; though it now takes up a lot more space. Wav file sizes are based on length rather than the data contained, i.e. a five minute song would take up as much space as five minutes of silence.
  2. Yeah, I emailed the guy and he said it was working before he sent it. That could be true as it was packaged with minimal cushioning. What I'm hoping, is that he just tried to hack it and ended up screwing it up that way, and that it's something that I can fix. I didn't realize it when I was bidding, but he lives in another country, so as far as all that goes, all I can do is give him bad feedback.
  3. I just bought a MZ-N707 secondhand off ebay to do some portable recording, but I'm having some trouble with the unit. When I put in a disc, nothing appears on the screen, and when I hit a button, it makes a quick whirring sound. I know the display works, because I can hook it up to the AC and it displays "CHARGING." I thought the unit was completely dead, but I looked at the firmware restore tutorial, and I can get into diagnostic mode no problem. I followed the directions, but after exiting the diagnostic mode, I still get nothing. Any ideas? Or am I out some money?
