  1. There's no reason or advantage to use lp2 or lp4 anymore, especially since the sound quality is much much better with himd sp and lp.
  2. Those were my criteria for buying as well. I like the flexibility.
  3. I use Sony MDR 848 LP's. I think they were one model down below the 888's. When replacement time comes around, I'm going for Shure E2's.
  4. It's cheaper to buy the 800. I also bought the unit already.
  5. You must be in an area with a good signal. I can't remember which site it was, but there was another complaint about dismal reception.
  6. I got my NHF800 recorder a couple of weeks ago and I still can't figure out how to comfortable place the remote while I'm using the device. Additionally, the buttons are extraordinarily indistinct, so getting the player to stop playing is tough and the buttons on the top aren't easy to use, either. It also seems built sort of left handed, but not quite. If the player is below the remote, the display is upside down. This is totally different from the old tuner remote that was basic, but really easy to use. I have to constantly look at this one and search for the buttons. Additionally, the reception is so poor that I can't justify the extra cost of it. The remote is really only good for the editing and advanced functions of the device. I improved reception a bit by removing the interference filter down by the dc-dc block, but it didn't help too much. If you're inside a house, forget about easily getting any stations. Additionally, that dc-dc block must be unobscured by even light clothing to be able to get a signal. Hope this helps anyone make a decision. I would still buy this unit over again, but I would not expect much from the tuner and think of it as the 700 with a better remote.
  7. I'm looking at one of those remotes from my 700 and it doesn't have a record button. Additionally, Sony has changed the connectors so that the old remotes are no longer fittable to the new models. The older models have a flat plug. The new ones are multi-plane. While we're on the topic, I must speak about how piss-poor the layout of the NHF800's tuner remote is. Gosh, I can't even find the buttons and it's layed out completely counterintuitively. The old tuner remote was fine, albeit simple. Additionally, the reception is s*it. I took off the noise suppressor on the cable and it helped *barely*. It also appears that the dc-dc converter block must be kept outside a pocket to improve reception. Like I said, the reception is almost non-existant, while the old tuner remote from way back worked nearly flawlessly. The new remote is only good for the advanced functions, at this point.
  8. Fake SP? Now I'm lost. I had my 800 for a few days now and I'm still getting up to speed.
  9. I downloaded it and it gave me the option to not validate, so I chose that. It simply said that validating allows faster updates at later times.
  10. Seriously, what was Sony thinking with these useless features?
  11. 848's The sound is really decent in the other modes. I could even say the sound is better with the ex/sur off than with the surround on.
  12. I wonder what the point was. I'd rather Sony saved the money and put it into giving me decent headphones, or some other crap. I just used the EQ. Sound is great. Surround is just disgusting.
  13. Crap, how do I validate my copy of XP? Shoot. Now I gotta look for my paperwork. I bet I don't even have it. Now bring me up to speed because I'm only a week into Hi/Net MD. What will the fix get me and where is it available?
  14. I can't even fathom using them. Either they color the music, or they make it sound like I'm listening through a drain pipe. Biggest thing is how poor the music sounds while at a lower volume. Studio and club are the closest to normal. Anyone else's experiences?
  15. It's only a matter of time before someone figures out how to defeat the SCMS.
  16. Just got mymz-nhf800 yesterday and I like it until I have to use the Sonicstage. Lots of problems. THis is a tedious program to use. First, I keep getting the upgrade window because I have 2.0 and there's a 2.2. The download doesn't work. It keeps saying I already have it, but that's besides the point. 1. The system keeps asking me to check my drive, which keeps failing. Won't allow MD Simple Burner to be used. 2. The system is not user friendly and constantly needs to be tended to. A long term of downloads will usually fail at some point, at which point I need to start it again. 3. Copying CD's to my hard drive through WinMedia and then importing them to Sonicstage is a pain because I have to import track by track and not album by album. During the importing, the Sonicstage consistantly alters the order of track, by putting the last track of each CD first. 4. I don't like the download restriction and possible tracking of my behavior through the software. Is there something out there that's better to use that this? I'm new, so I'm trying to learn everything as well as I possibly can. To avoid any other questions, my computer is decently new, virus and ad/spyware free. So crashing is going to be inherent to the program. Edit: just got it to successfully check the cd drive by inserting a cd without an enhanced section. It seems all the unsuccessful attempts were with enhanced cd's.
  17. Might be a bit premature to make the request. I just applied the procedure to my MZR 700 and I like it, not a crazy amount of features added, but whatever.
  18. I'm also a bit confused about the software being used. Some people are using software that's not the one included? There are limitations to the bundled stuff?
  19. Ah, more confusion now. I was thinking I could make direct transfers from the optical output on my cd player and use the Hi MD modes to compress it. I really need to get up to speed fast on this because I'm obviously not truly understanding how HiMD works in conjunction with the software. Where are the best resources to read up?
  20. I normally record in MDLP2 on my mzr 700 and I have a HI-MD 800 coming in tomorrow. I was wondering what setting is comparable in sound quality to MDLP2. I am going to reformat my old discs to the higher mode, but once this is done, I can only record in HI MD mode on them, correct? Apologies, but the Hi-MD stuff is pretty confusing at first and the Sony site isn't much of a help, with sometimes absent specs.
