  1. my impressions? well, previously i had only used openmg, but that's when shit hit the fan (more problems prior to the detection problem), so obviously there is a significant difference and i cannot compare to previous sonicstage versions. importing: i perfered openmg's system better.. it was more comfortable. whatever that means. in sonicstage, i tried importing my entire music library (55gb) into the program. my first attempt i started it and left the house. i came back to find out it crashed at 51%. cleared the library and tried again, this time overnight. came back to it this morning and it made it had completed. from a to m the folders were imported properlly, but n - z the folders were imported, but no files. annoying, not quite sure what i'm going to do to correct this (there's far too many albums too import each one individually). recording: wow, what an improvement as compared to openmg. i know it's probably nothing new to most people here, but i'm extremely happy with this. it used to be that openmg would go into a non-responive state while recording and seemed to take a little longer than sonicstage. the fact that sonicstage is responive while recording does it for me. overall: it's pretty. it hasnt broken down on me yet. i'm happy.
  2. no atrain, my problem is not with the md drivers. thanks for the suggestion ecoutelemonde, but that wasn't my problem. actually, i'm not clear as to what my problem was. in addition to my previous posts, i again went onto the second computer, windows updated it like it needed (all they way to sp1), and again tryed various versions of the sony md software doing complete uninstalls along the way. still no succcess. today, however, on the original computer, i did the typical complete uninstall (directories, files, registries), went into disk manager and uninstalled all usb controllers (there were 5 including "netmd"). restarted as required. windows detected usb drive, did its thing. i installed just sonicstage 2.3. restarted. plugged in the minidisc and that's when something magical happened: my minidisc was detected. why my md is not being detected on the other machine though, i'm not sure. i'm not going to play around with it anymore however since it is not my computer and i've got it working on my own computer. yeah, i'm sure no one cares at this point, but thanks again to people who offered their advice.
  3. kurisu, I appreciate the response from this forum and I don't feel this negatively towards Sony or md's, it's just easier to complain than praise -- especially when frustrated. I've actually cherished the thing for the past two years. And I agree about that windows comment. It's my brothers computer however, so it's not my responsiblity. Lets just say I have to try extra hard to keep my computer safe since I'm on the same network. But, I'm in the middle of exams, so until they finish I won't be dedicating any more effort into fixing this problem. I'll keep you updated if I get it fixed.
  4. well, i've spent the last half hour with this thing again. this time i'm on a winxp machine, clean install (no updates, no service packs). openmg default software that it came with, doesnt work, sonic stage 1.5 doesnt work, 2.2 doesnt work. i've installed each with md not connected. i followed the faq deleting all extra folders and registries between installs. this machine refuses to be detected for whatever reason. figures, 5 repairs and finally the warranty runs out and its useless. i wonder if i can melt my md down into an ipod?
  5. hi, thanks for replying A440. I had seen this site, but i didn't think it would be any use because this fix seems to be only for winxp users without any service pack, or sp1. i will give the sony chat a shot, unfortunatly, i'm quite busy so i'm only free late at night (unless tech support is 24hr? -- i'll check when i get home) later tonight, when i'm free, i'll try the software on a different machine that has sp2 installed. thanks again, any other suggestions would be appreciated.
  6. I have tried every suggestion I have found on these forums with no success. I am running winXP sp2, using a mz-n707. I have tried various versions of openmd and sonic stage. I have followed the faqs on this forum. Checked my bios to make sure usb drive is enabled (was a problem once long ago). I have been to the sony store and there is nothing wrong with my machine (or my cord). My computer, sony's programs cannot detect my md! I'm desperate, any ideas on how to fix this? I've had my md repaired 5 times (never due to misuse) and have had nothing but utter frustration with the software -- I am a very dissatisfied customer right now.
