  1. i was adding track marks to a file the other day, and then when i clicked the stop button to save my edits, i looked away and noticed a beeping sound, and it said "audio file error." i cannot play any track: whenever i put in the disk, it says the audio file error and doesnt let me do anything. in soncistage it shows space taken up on the disk but no files or folders. is there any way i can recover my data? i am sure that the track i was editing was lost--i am fine with that. i just want to get the rest of my data back. is there a way i can edit the raw data to fix a track end error or something like that? thanks. daiv
  2. i went to eservice.sony.com to see if it could be repaired, but the site said the unit was not eligible. there is a replacement option (which is $164). would they replace the unit, and which unit would they give me?
  3. the rh1 looks ok... i'm still a bit grumpy about no battery pack, but i could get Macally’s IP-A481. i'm leery of the fact that the display on the unit is useless, and that you are required to use the remote to get any track information. the remote was the first thing to go on my nh900. can you record without the remote on the rh1? also, how is entering track information on teh rh1? it's doable on the mz0nh900, because of the scroll weel. my mz-nh900 had button weakness. after researching a bit on the forum, the m100/rhwhatever seems to have the same problems my mz-nh900 had (before i fell on it), but worse. it's such a shame, too, because the m100 has the most amazing interface. which recorder would you recommend? some people complain about the paint chipping on the mz-nh700, and the battery latch. have either of these been a problem? i always carry my minidisc in a case, unless i am recording, so these arent huge issues.
  4. i was walking to the car and i slipped on some ice. luckily my instruments are ok (150 year old flute is fine!) but i fell on top of my mz-nh900, which was in its case in my bag. there is a slight dent on the front; the player will not turn on, and does not connect to the computer through usb. is it possible to get it fixed? my guess is no. the rh1 on sony's site looks like it sucks. where's my beloved battery pack? a friend of mine from wisconsin has a minidisc player that looks to be the rh10 or m100 or whatever. i cant ask him because he is basically uncontactable. i liked his recorder and i remember he did too. i remember it had really easy editing and file managing on its big, blue led screen. obviously that unit is no longer made. do i suck it up and buy the rh1? or do i go for another model, and if so, which one? if m100 is the way to g i found 3 places to buy the m100. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00...mi-20/ref=nosim http://cgi.ebay.com/MZ-RH1-SONY-HI-MD-PORT...1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/SONY-MZ-M100-HI-MD-REC...1QQcmdZViewItem
  5. doumo arigatou kurisu! atarashii desu ne?
  6. no, i'm very careful what happens to it. there's something wrong with the button underneath the slider, i think. is the one you speak of this: http://minidiscaccess.com/item.html?PRID=1512686 you said $70, but that says $100. is it more because on ebay they are used or because these people put a mark up on it? also, do you know how the buttons work? i didnt much care for the play / pause / confirm / back / forward button on the remote (obviously cuz i knew it would die on me like it just did, from the moment i got it) but how does the volume work? i love the volume method on the one i have, but ill adapt cuz that 3 line one looks really awesome.
  7. my first issue is that the play / pause button on the remote is not working. it has been getting harder and harder to use the play / pause / select function, and now no matter how hard i press it, it usually doesnt work. and sometimes, when i press previous, it gets stuck and i have to pop it out. i have been unable to locate the remote for purchase elsewhere. at one time i was able to locate a more expensive remote by sony that was for (i believe ) the nh 1 (or whatever the name was. the one above mine in the 2004 series of mindisc players). would this be compatible? if i were to purchase a remote for one of the new hi md discs, would it work? i am assuming that sony will not replace it for me, but it has not been a year since i had the minidisc, so i dont know if that makes a difference. also, i have been using the play and stop on the minidisc and have discovered something unusual. i have a suspicion it is supposed to do this. the top half of the button is a pause "||", and the bottom half is a stop squqre. however, underneath it says "cancel / chng". it will not stop when i press stop. it stops the track and then starts the next track. i have to hit it several times before it stops. however, if i press pause, then stop, it stops. is it defective, or is it supposed to be like this? i never noticed before because i always used the remote.
  8. thx jadeclaw! that will make my life a lot easier. i was going to probably just try to mount it without mounting it as a super floppy in fstab, even though when i mounted it last night i went th rough that whole process. i think i started to block it out and forget it ever happened, it was so painful.... haha, well at least i learned how to use fdisk last night. superfloppies! haha, i was wondering how other people were using them as minidisc music players and linux usb drives. and latexxx.... shame on you. why do you think we're on linux? cuz we want it done the easy way! no, haha. not for me, at least. i was so mad that suse 9 (unlike 7, idk about 8) auto mounted my floppy and cd drives. it ruined all my fun. seriously though, i've heard some stuff about ubuntu. i have to try it. that and debian and xandros and gentoo. someone told me i should try gentoo... it sounds painful. i tried mandrake and i hated it. maybe when i get my hands on a crappy computer to make a web server i'll put a different version of linux on it than just suse.
  9. i figured it out. although i reformatted the disk in linux (and i shouldnt have) so then windows wouldnt read it but linux would so i sonicstage reformatted it and i will try again tomorrow.
  10. how do i use my 900 as a usb hard drive in linux? i read of someone else here doing it. what commands do i need to use?
  11. music (all hi-lp): ravi shankar - nadardani ravi shankar - krishna krishna ravi shankar - swara kakali bothy band - the whole album of "old hag you have killed me" coamhin oRaghallaigh and mick oBrien - their album "kitty lie over" james kelly - his album "melodic journeys" ce - their album self titled teada - their album "give us a penny and let us be gone" joe burke - his album "morning myst" and my uncle's band the kells - "feast of the archangels" data: none as yet, will be backing up linux and windows home directories. its all irish music, so i dont know the names to all the tunes because each tune is usually 3 tunes put together, so thats 3 names per track, so thats a lot of names. i only usually learn a name when i learn how to play the tune. oh, and i had a kurt elling (jazz) cd on it before i reformatted that i havent put back on yet. if you cant tell by now i like irish music! i got hte minidisc player so i could record irish music at sessions and workshops / or from my grandma and my uncle, so i could learn tunes by ear.

    VERY slow CD burning!

check the speed on your cd drive. if its not 100x, how can you reach 100x? then account for conversion. that is minidisc write time, like everyone else said, not your whole system write time.
  13. get an 80mn disc and use that until you can get a new 1gb disc...
  14. yeah, it should still be under warranty. i'm going to try to get it replaced. i do want that other remote more than life itself... but i dont have the money right now! i need to spend it on other musical related things. if i didnt need that money to buy bamboo, i would get it in a heartbeat. my only problem is what will i do for the week or so i dont have the remote as sony replaces it? not only will it be a pain, but i braided my headphone chord last year and i dont know that it will reach quite all the way down to my pocket now. ironically, my headphone chord is braided, but i have no problems with it, but the unbraided remote has problems. thanks smkranz for the link! i'll bookmark it and buy that when i can afford it, .
  15. sometimes when the 900's remote's chord bends a certain way i lose audio output to the right ear. is this normal, or is it defective? i removed the little chord wrappy thing that it came with, and the problem has all but gone away, but still happens. i'm not sure if i needed that wrappy thing to comply with some spectrum standards or something, but the weight made it more likely to lose right audio. does anyone else have this problem, or should i try and call sony to see if they will replace the remote? i've been searching to find a replacement remote online but they dont seem to be sold seperately as far as i can see.
  16. also, i tried the MD simple burner software today and it worked without a hitch.
  17. i thought i had heard that sp2 would make sonicstage work less. would sp2 have anything to do with it if the sonicstage software worked one day and not the next? if it would make a difference, then i will try to install it, but i would like to know first.
  18. ok, i just checked, and i have "micrsoft windows xp professional version 2002 service pack 1" so i do not have sp2.
  19. no, i do not. i think it tried to install itself but it never has, that i know of. it keeps telling me that the service pack 2 installation has failed and to send or not send a message. i would assume that means i do not. how would i check?
  20. i'm using ss 2.3 upgraded from 2.2. i dont know the bit rate, but it worked fine the first day i got it, and i could transfer like 20 files at a time, and now it wont transfer one. i have not heard any clicks from my player, and like i said i can upload to sonicstage but not download from, even though i could the first day i got it no problem. i run windows xp, amd 1.0 ghz. i dont use a bus to connect the minidisc.
  21. yesterday, it worked fine. i transferred 80 tunes and listened all day. i am still learning how to record, but i did it successfully twice on just junk noise and me babbling incessantly. today, when i try to transfer from my computer to my nh900 it crashes. i tried another disk and it didnt work. just to check, i tried to upload, and i didnt have a problem. i can play from the minidisc in sonicstage, read, change names, add groups, upload, but not transfer. it just crashes. doesnt even start to transfer. what should i do? i thought it might be my computer, but then it doesnt make sense that it would be able to upload and change names / add groups. it would make more sense if sonicstage just crashed whenever i connected the 900, but it ONLY crashes when i try to transfer.
  22. thanks, i went with the nh900. i love it, but i am having problems with sonicstage (as if i didnt expect to, ugh). it worked fine yesterday, but now every time i try to transfer to the minidisc it crashes on me. just to see i uploaded two test tracks i recorded yesterday (that i dont care if i upload wrong and wont get to again cuz of DRM) and that worked fine, so i am completely confused. i reinstalled but it didnt do anything. i want to uninstall and reinstall it, but i would rather not because then i think i might have ot reformat and retransfer the 80 songs. if thats what i have to do, fine, but who's to say it wont work again for one day and stop? do you know what the problem might be?
  23. thank you very much. luckily my parents are willing to pay more money to return that one and get me one of the other ones. why would they sell one without mic input? they make it so hard to find out on the sonystle website. it took me forever to read their subtle hints at being able to record or not. what is the difference between the mznh900 and the mznh1? besides price, of course.
  24. which unit should i get so that i can use a microphone?
  25. i am getting a MZNH600DKIT minidisc player for xmas, as well as a ECM-MS907 microphone. are they compatible? i can find no information about it. if not, i'll have to get a different minidisc player or a different mic. i know there is a clip on the mic, but i dont know if the player has a holder for it / a port. i thought they were compatible, but my dad said he couldnt find anything about it on the box (its an xmas present so i havent seen it) and i started to wonder and i couldnt find anything about it.
