i broke down and just bought a personal CD player instead ... gonna wait a bit for the minidisc, see what happens, or find some money :/ -
so which is the "world" version? the one sold in america, europe, japan? I didnt realise that difference between european and american output. I was thinking of just getting one here in the uk, but maybe i'll get one in america instead....does this output disparity make much a of a difference?

january eh? interesting...then i guess waiting would be good, if they appear on time (hmmm)...damn it! i'm sorta lookin at a NH-900. The NH-1 is incredibly sexy, but the lack of any AA battery use sort of puts me off.... the NH-900 doesnt appear that expensive for me; $250 compared to the £200 or £250 it would cost here -
ah, good call thanks. so fuck the docking cable, just get a wire...i'd assume something like that would be cheap enough to justify getting a player in america just to make sure yakko, would it be the same deal with the NH-1? i had a thought a minute ago on the gumstick. my old cassette walkman used a gumstick and charger, which i still have... what if it was the same type of batter, i could just use that  obviously i'd have to find the manual to figure out which it is....and it probably wouldnt work.... and would it blow my house up?

basic hi-md questions - hi-md too good to be true?

i was just wanting confirmation on this seeming craziness..... so if i make my own recording of, for example, my non-existent band, i can only upload it once to one computer? is this to stop me bootlegging to lots of computers? if i upload it to my computer then delete it later, i cant upload it again? not to sound too stupid, but is this what you mean when you talk about SS trashing tracks that you want to upload? -
i have a sort of related question on batteries: these players that recharge, is it done from a wall socket, not via USB? I live in the UK, if i bought a player in the US would that be a bad idea? or could i just pick up a different cradle here?

hey cheers weird, because minidisc was 'the' thing a couple of years ago with quite a lot of people i know ah man, when will the 2nd generation be out? i'll be in america next week, and i'll have to make do with nothing for a while -
furst of all, great site, very imformative...managed to find quite a lot of stuff from it when i was on the train the other day it bothered me that i didnt have anything portable with which i could listen to music -- i had a decent Sony Walkman, but that was either stolen or i lost it a little while ago, i forget which. So i started thinking of getting a minidisc initially an mp3 player sprung to mind as they seem to be all the rage and i could store everything i have on there, but this Hi-MD is interesting. Also, i would like to be able to record with it -- not neccessarily with a microphone, but connect my player/recorder directly into a mixer so i could record the sets of my friends in clubs. Also, so i could record vinvyl at home (digitally?) for my own enjoyment. i dont know, can you do this with an mp3 player? seems very doable with a minidisc player... so any suggestions as to what i should be looking at? also, would i be able to upload it to my computer via the usb? i hear with some of these players that's not possible as for just plain listening to music, something like Hi-MD sounds great, because i dont really have a functioning stereo (atleast not with an optical out) and use my laptop mostly...so connecting it via USB to shift tracks quickly sounds good. I've heard that Sony has its own format for copy protection or something though? and that causes problems? is it a big deal? also, can i transfer mp3s that i just have lying around my computer, ones that i havent burnt off CD? i live in the UK but i might be going to the US next week, so i'm thinking of picking one up there due to the weak dollar ( :rasp: ). would this cause any trouble? none of these players recharge via docking cradle do they? i spose i could just use an AA battery if so... also, has america given up on the minidisc? looking at places like bestbuy, circuit city, they only seem to have 2 or 3 players each. always seemed like minidisc was more popular in europe with people i knew, but i havent really compared happy new year!
