  1. Well having spoken to Sony's IT people and their service types it turns out that the issues was with the unit itself rather than with the software. So I have swapped the unit and all is well!!!
  2. Yeah, you are right, it is time consuming and does indeed mean another transfer. But it is easy enuff for me to just leave the vinyl recording to MD while I watch a movie or somesuch and, as you rightly point out, it saves me the bother of moving the computer or the stereo. With regards to the transfer, I am not bothered by the minimal loss incurred, it is not noticable (to my ears anyway!). It is food for thought though, a large scale LP dump direct to the PC....hmmm Cheers Slooter.
  3. Hey there, well I have done quite a bit of Vinyl to CD-R work and have found the results to be very good. There is no reason why you couldn't have great success with vinyl to MD. My technique however, while producing great sound, is slow and labour intensive. I first record from my turntable to MD via my stereo amp in one a continuous file and worry about breaking it up later. This is the easy part. That is, I run a digital out (or RCA) from my amp into my MD recorder (an old and large component style unit), set the levels on the MD recorder and simply record. I then connect the minidisc to my PC via an audio capture card 'Edirol UA-20' and save the file to 'Music Maker 7' (a cheap version of Cubase or such) and from there I can delicately break the file up, remove much of the noise and alter volume levels and so on. I have not done vinyl to CD or MD since getting my Hi-MD recorder so am not sure about USB connections as yet. Next, I transfer the files to 'Steinberg clean 4.0' which I use to remove the last of the pop, hiss, crackle and so on. Finally, I enter the song details and burn the song to disc! Phew, what a mission...and yeah it is a real hassle, but at least at the end of it I get a sweet sounding and well structured CD-R or MD.
  4. I have managed to download SS 2.3 finally, after around 7 attempts. This I did via the european site (1) and not the Asia Pacific site (2)! 1) http://www.connect-europe.com/sonicstage 2) http://www.planetmg.com/NewProd/sony-asia/...SonicStage.html Weird, as I am in Australia. Nonetheless, this has not remedied my problem, that is, I still can not use MD Simple Burner to put music on my 1Gig discs. Confused, any suggestions most welcome. Ta Slooter.
  5. Okay, I can successfully record directly from my CD player via an optical cable. No probs on either a 1G or 80 min disc. I can also use MD simple Burner with an 8o min disc (the unit does sound like it is struggling though, very noisy. Is this normal? I heard very little noise when recording directly from my CD player). However, I still cant use MD Simple Burner with the 1G disc and I cant download the remaining parts of Sonic Stage. Cheers Slooter.
  6. Hey Atrain and Kurisu, thanks heaps for your assistance thus far. However, reformatting the discs has not proved successful and I am still unable to download all of sonic stage v 3.2. As I said, the first two sections download fine but as soon as the download for the "Sonic Stage add-on" gets to 1.73 Meg it stops downloading???? :wacky: I am using the link you gave me Atrain, the planetMG one...but still no good? So, what to do? I shall try to record in the old fashioned manner via the stereo and see how that goes.. I am using the Sony Hi capacity 1G discs and the Sony 80 min disc (which I will try to use with MD simple Burner now). Ps. JB, seems like a pretty good price! Cheers Slooter.
  7. Thanks heaps for your advice, I shall give that a shot. Ps. I live in Melbourne Australia. Cheers.
  8. Hi all, I am having a strange problem with my MZNH1 which is brand new. That is to say, when I am trying to put files from my CDs onto my minidisc player using either MD Simple Burner (v2.0) or Sonic Stage (v2.1) I manage to fill the disc (1Gig) to around 20% of its capacity and then it refuses to work any more. The player itself makes a clicking noise and then gives me an "Access err" message while continuing to spin indefinately. I am unsure how I correct this issue. Is it a problem with my recorder/player or is it a software issue? I have used different discs to no avail... Please, any advice would be most appreciated. Cheers Slooterdog. Ps. I attempted to download the latest version of Sonic Stage, however it refused to fully download after numerous attempts...the first two sections are fine, but the last two fail???
