During recording at random points my HiMD recorder starts a new track, not sure if this is to do with lower volume sensitivity? If anyone can share some pointers on how to sort this I would be very grateful.

Well after the previous week of searching for a microphone pre-amp, I actually own one that works quite well all the time. Being a brass instructor I own a yamaha Silent brass system for Trombone, which consists of a mute for the trombone with a pickup in, and a battery operated mixing unit. This unit also takes a Line-In which I plug my microphone into instead of the pickup, then take the headphone output which can be altered. This makes a reasonable pre-amp. As a bonus the the silent brass mixing unit has reverb settings so I can take a normal recording and make it sound like it is in a cathedral, quite smart really. To top this off I have also picked up a stereo mic mixing unit for £35 uk, (around $60) with everything I need including level settings for each. This is a Behringer UB802 EURORACK, I also purchased connector and splitter cable to connect my Sony Microphone, and it works wonderfully. Now all I need to do is stop my MD player from starting a new track during recording when it feels like it. Any suggestions?

I have been looking all over the net for a UK based pre amp, the one that falls heavily looking at price and features is the following: MM-STEREO PREAMP at: www.microphonemadness.com product URL MM-StereoPreamp Unfortunately I have to order this long distance to the UK, so if anyone knows how reliable they are especially for international orders. Alternatively if anyone knows of a UK based dealer or equivalent pre amp I would be very grateful. As for the brass line recording, I tested the MIC in with lower settings and try as I could it kept clipping, so pre-amp it is. T...

Announcement: Ive Updated The Hi-MD Renderer Guide
Tierce replied to marcnet's topic in Hi-MD Renderer Forum
I have just taken a look at the Himdrenderer guide and it looks pretty comprehensive. I used the software yesterday, it is quite intuitive but what you have posted here has answered 100% of the remaining questions I have. Excellent job. Only thing I would recommend to add is that when you hit Render, the track plays but in small segments and can catch you a bit off guard if you are not sure about it. Also it might be worth just noting a little what happens when you do hit the Render button. Apart from that very easy and intuitive to use and does the job you ask it to do. What more could you ask for. Keep up the good work. Mike Ps. Personally as a software developer something like this I would be interesting understanding the mechanics, so I might have a look at the format and what interesting things can be done with it. One thing this is not a blatant request for the source code -
I have a slight problem, I need to get the latest version of Sonicstage onto my laptop (version 2.3 I do believe). The technical problem is this: 1. My laptop has NO network connection at all 2. I am using a computer behind a firewall and the Sonicstage installer won't fire up through it 3. I need to get Sonicstage onto my laptop by using a USB memory device only If I could get a full install downloaded, I can then copy it onto the USB device and copy it onto my laptop. Afterwards I can then access my Hi-MD player. Any suggestions please where I can retrieve this full download? M

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I would have to knock holes in the wall to move it back being a small room. I will need to do a bit of messing around with levels to see what works best. The recording is incredibly clear apart from the clipping. I think the overloading is from the Mic on the MD player, so I am going to go for Line In recording from now on. Shame I am not in the US, some easily obtainable pre-amps there

Well I successfully managed to record the Brass line I teach with my MZNH-900 and Sony ECM-MS907 microphone. In general the recording was not bad, quality of sound was excellent. BUT!!! Recording to Line produced a very quiet, at times inaudible sound and had a problem of the MD recording splitting a single recording between tracks. If I used MIC, I would get generally good sound, but at the louder segments it would cut out which I believe is the pre amp overloading. Therefore I am lead to believe I will have to use Line In recording for the quality but need to use a pre-amp so I can record the sound at a good level without any cut outs. The problem being is this, after working this out I have trawled the net looking for pre-amps, unfortunately all the ones the look any good are in the US. I am looking for a good MD pre-amp which can be bought in the UK. If anyone has any recommendations, and/or suppliers please let me know. Unfortunately I am in quite a tight budget. Many thanks Mike

You read my mind, I have a Sony ECM-MS907 Mic, and wondered if I needed a pre-amp or will the unit on it's own be sufficient. I am looking to record like musc, some of it quite loud!
