  1. i am really excited about the new Hi-MD units and that they will support MP3...However it also states that it supports wma and wav files as well. Does this mean these files will play direct or that they will have to first be converted...converted to atrac i mean. If they have to be converted I'm sticking with my nhf800
  2. All right thanks for the info. The added frequency range was also one of the main points for considering this mic. Most likely gonna order one once the income tax comes in. Thanks again.
  3. I would be essentially using it for self recordings alone or with a group of 5 or six people just for practices/rehearsals. The idea is to kind of put it in the center of the room and hit record and forget. Basically just for my own evaluation of mine and everyone elses playing. We're talking anything from solo piano, to like four or five amped instruments and vocals through a pa all at once. so I need something pretty versatile. That just looks like it is the most hassle free mic I can find. Just kind of plug it in and let it go. Sorry about the Jiminy Cricket...Maybe more like the angel/devil kinda thing where one is on each shoulder saying buy buy buy, and the other is like "you should really think this through."
  4. I have noticed that some people reccomend a battery box in addition to the microphone to help keep the mic from overloading the pre amp. My question is, is a powered microphone along the lines of the sound pro's sp-psm-6 http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/SP-PSM-6 the same thing as using a single point stereo mic with a battery box, or would an additional box be needed with the already powered mic? Also the guru's of this board are amazingly helpful in a jiminy cricket kind of way and are excellent human resources for a person like me who doesn't know much about the technical side of things. Thanks Alot
  5. Thanks I was actually thinking of getting a set of binaurals and one of those old beauty shop styrofoam heads and mounting them on just slightly more forward facing than normal ears. I'll look into these, and while I'm at it could I get some pro's and cons of using a volume attenuator vs using a separate powered preamp, i mean budget wise I will definately be going the attenuator route unless someone really has a smoking gun on why preamps are $100 or so better. thanks for everything so far by the way
  6. Thanks but I have a PA and routinely use it, along with my four track while playing with my friends. I am just looking for a mike so I can take the minidisc on the go and kind of record ideas if they should happen to pop up when i am away from my main gear.
  7. Hi all I have been using a cheap radio shack mono Mic to adjust myself to recording with my nhf800. Well Now I am pretty competent and realize that I need a stereo mic for my purposes one channel just doesnt cut it on playback. I will be recording myself playing acustic instruments/singing. I noticed that some mics I have been looking at have the option for being either low sensitivity or and that some are high sensitivity. i have my eye on So the question is for my purposes would it be better to purchase a low or high sensitivity mic. I tend to play and sing fairly loud. I am looking at a Sound Professionals SP-PSM6 http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/SP-PSM-6 Well any help from anyone would be great to help me to get steered on my way. Thanks Gerald
  8. Ok I am finally gonna use the Hi-md to do some self recording of acousic guitar, I have the unit all figured out, but I was wondering about uploading the media. With the himd renderer is it pretty much an easy step by step process or will I need some tips. All i really wanna do is get them off of the md into a wav file or something so that I can burn them to cd. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Like I said I am quite new to this and I have read quite a few posts, but if there is any kind of shortcut it would be awesome if you could throw me some help. thanks gerald P.S. How can you make the recorded track louder either before or after it is uploaded
  9. Well since i'm new here I thought I'd do something to bump this topic, because music discussions are uhh cool. so here are my top five for the moment MOLOKO-Statues Neil Young-Greendale Tom Waits-Real Gone Dirty 3- Whatever you love you are Pearl Jam-VS Damien Rice-O well six but come on five is used all the time The list changes daily except for vs. thats always there, but everything else changes Reg
  10. Well I just got my first MD player and have had it for a week and decided to leave some of my impressions. First off I love this thing. It amazes me storing 7+ hours of high quality music onto one disc in Hi Sp. PLaylisting is not really a concern for me as I can just put all of my favorite songs on one disc and just set it to shuffle. Transfer speed is a gripe, but oh well. I'm not directing jets or selling stocks so I got a lot of time. All my music is ripped from cd, so mp3 support isn't such a big deal to me. I prefer to buy my music. Although connect could use a few more titles, it would be great to download a Moloko album rather than pay high import prices to get it at the local record store. The remote....People say this thing is confusing? Maybe for someone who has never used anything with electricity, but come on it seriously only takes about five minutes to figure out. Most HD players also take five minutes to figure out too. One of my main reasons for buying was durability, and not wanting to buy a product that has like 80 percent marketshare. I noticed with my friends HD units one has a Zen touch and another has a 20g ipod, that they too my ears just didn't sound as good as the net MD that my brother let me borrow. If this seems like it's rambling it definately is. Also my friend went through a previous HD player from dell before she got the zen, because she took it jogging. She doesn't use the Zen for exercising now. No complaints from the ipod though as far as durability goes...It is a standup unit, besides short battery life, but I hate the idea that if its broke your data (music) is all gone. As long as Sony continues to make backwards compatible products I'll have my md's for years to come, assuming that I dont accidently drop them in a fire. And even if sony abandons the format, It would be awesome to stock up on some Hi Md players at 100 bucks a pop, and cheaply be able to replace them when they break.{edit} forgot to mention that i do love to tape shows at clubs, and I can't wait to use this, I used to just use a $20 tape recorder with an external mike, so this is definately a bonus for the 800 {end edit} Also Battery LIFE wow, how can someone really buy something that doesn't play for at least 12 hours with good sound at a decent volume. I have put one AA in my 800 since I got it and it only reads half full at about five hours or so a day for 6 days 35 hours and going people...ahh the miracles of duracell, and also once i get some good rechargables I won't even have to spend a fortune replacing one AA every two weeks or so, just use them till there gone and recharge baby.... And lastly i really don't need 20 GB of music or 40 or 60, cause well really I dont think there is that much truly great music and I dont need to put all my albums tapes cd's onto one unit and have them with me at all times. If you read this you are definately losing your mind by now. By the way I did not re read this for corrections.{edit} I lied I just re read it and added that thing about recording {end edit} Later, Reg
