Regalhogweed

I am trying to record for the first time on the Sony Mz R 700, The playback through either a microphone, connected to a portable CD player, or speaker output on a pc, is broken up. it will play for 1 to 2 seconds at the time and freeze up, then continue for a few seconds. The display spinning icon goes nuts when stalled, then slows when sound is played. Help
