erm.. all appears to be fixed now it's about 4 hours worth of music so i haven't listened to all the tracks, but i've recopied them to my HiMD and played a few of them randomly and they seem to be working fine. must have had some sort of transfer problem the first time round, guess we can mark this down as another SonicStage issue. thanks for everyone's input anyway Mike

thanks for the responses. "did u play these "later found" omg songs in media player or SS?" i don't actually play the OMG files on my computer, as i say originally i didn't even know it backed up every song checked out to my player. the problems with playback are being experienced on my HiMD unit. "how would the 1G be corrupted?" read the reply before this one for more info. i personally haven't got a clue how it happened. i was using my unit to transfer some data files between 2 PCs when it just stopped half way and effectively 'crashed'. so i removed the USB lead, after a while the screen went blank, then when i tried to play the disc it told me to re-format it. In response to the 2nd reply, the original WMA audio files were deleted to free up space (during numerous 'clearing out' and defrag sessions to free up as much memory as possible for the arduous task of 3d animation rendering. this was obviously, in retrospect, pointless as by copying the files to MD and deleting the WMAs i was simply replacing them with OMG files!) i've just tried playing the OMG files through SS and they work fine, so i'm gonna try putting them onto my unit again and see if the same happens. thanks Mike

Hi i've recently run into the following problem... after my 1gb disc corrupted and i lost everything on it, there was 3 or 4 albums i lose that i don't own which i thought i'd lost for good. however, on searching through my harddrive i found that it had stored OpenMG versions of all the WMA files i'd copied to the disk, including these 3 or 4 albums. all the other tracks were replaced either from cd or from the original WMA files, but these 3/4 'lost' albums i replaced with the archived OpenMG files. they copied across fine but now they won't play back properly. Most of the tracks will just stop at random points, the counter keeps going up and i can still hear the beeps from my remote but the music won't come through. and it's happening at different points within the SAME song, so it's not a problem with the original recording. also, before the disc corrupted the same songs played fine, and at the moment all the other songs play fine, so i don't think it's anything to do with the history of the disc. anyone had any similar problems? i haven't had the chance to recopy the OMG files to my disc to try them again, i'll give that a go as soon as possible. thanks Mike

last week i read a post on here about what people would like to see in future MDs but i can't find it now, and i've thought of a useful addition to the remote control. i've got an NH900 and cycling through tracks and albums with the spinning disc on the front (which leaves your current song playing and you can jump straight to any specific album/track) of the unit appears to be a very power-efficient way of moving through the disc, whereas using the album/10 track jump buttons on the remote just kills the battery. surely it wouldn't be too difficult to incorporate a similar feature into the remote control? i always use the soft pouch that came with my NH900 or the more durable belt clip pouch that came with my previous Net MD (can't remember the model) because the aforementioned Net MD saw it's demise through being carried unprotected in my pocket; scratches, buttons stop working and eventually the screws worked their way out of the case and the front was loose! cos when you've got your unit in your pocket/bag inside some form of protective pouch, it's hassle to take it out and cycle through. chances of this maybe happening? one other thing i was wondering, what's the average battery life of a HiMD unit for just constant playback, no track skipping, editing or even volume adjustment, just solid playback. it appears to me that if Sony offer a product that boasts 40 hours of music, the battery should be able to handle atleast 40 hours of music as well. then again, maybe it can, i don't know. i'm currently experiencing a similar problem since upgrading to SS 2.3 (although if you read my last post on the problems i had before upgrading, it's not so bad) but it's only every now and then. i've found if i open SonicStage, then put the disc in it works fine. this could just be me my computer though.

hi i've had an NH900 since early september, and since then i've had continuous Sonic Stage problems. i had a Net MD for a few years before this and experienced problems with OpenMG and was convinced that SonicStage would be stable and much much better.... how naive of me. the major probem i had to begin with was that (as listed by someone else on here i think) every time i opened sonic stage or simple burner and connected my recorder it'd crash and close the program. this was kind of temperamental and occasionally worked. however, the real problems started a month ago. i'm a student, and when i returned home for christmas with my computer, all of a sudden neither Sonic Stage nor Simple Burner would recognise my recorder. the computer recognised it fine, it would show up as an additional hard drive and i'd get the usual deluge of "new hardware detetcted" ... "new usb device detected" ... "Sony Hi-MD detected" everytime i plugged it in, but the software just wouldn't recognise it. just a simple driver problem i first though, i'll try reinstalling it, but i hadn't brought the cd home with me, so i was stuck for a month. a (completely separate topic altogether, but during this time my Hi-MD somehow corrupted itself whilst being used to transfer data files from computer to computer and i had to reformat it, losing about 14 albums worth of music!) so i eventually get hold of my software, reinstall it, still nothing. so i get online, look for help, end up here and find the Sonic Stage 2.2 update (which i couldn't see a trace of on the Sony site! nor an email address, nice that the only way you can get in touch with them is by phone or post!), downloaded it and it's all fixed. so again, thanks! i like the idea of this forum you've got here, as much an appreciation of MD as it is a community or technical support. myself and friends who have also own MD players for the past 4 years or so have always wondered why MD didn't catch on in quite the way we know it should. nice to know there's more of us!
