  1. I much prefer it to the other remote, the instantly flickable clip is quite a joy as well. I'm finding it a bid fiddly at the mo, but only because I've just started using it without even remotely scanning instructions. My stupidity, not the remote! I'm glad you confirmed the difference in the models, the sound definately seems clearer and more balanced. Its not black though.... but you can't have it all, hey?!
  2. Hey I did! Bearing in mind that listening is subjective... as you say. Recorded a mp3 taken from soulseek in atrac3+64, 256 and atrac 132. Didn't like atrac132 at all, sounded a lot worse to me than atrac3+64. Atrac3+256 sounded the best, but there wasn't such a marked improvment to warrant the extra memory. However, I was listening to quite a heavy song so I think you'd have to try some jazz or other more precise music which may appreciate the extra quality. There might be more of a marked improvement straight from CD's which I haven't tried yet but at the moment I think atrac3+64 is fine for general use. Answers on a postcard please....?!
  3. oh yeah..... and the 1400 battery I ordered to go with it is SO MUCH better!
  4. Hey there. Computer all upgraded and back on line. First thoughts on the JE? Much better (it states made in malaysia by the way). They did send me a pack of 74min discs, which i would have gladly swapped for one hi-md! I don't know whether its just the increased headphone output but it sounds different, not just louder. The sound seems crisper and the preset sound options actually sound useful, whereas they just sounded a bit silly on my europe model. Dont know if thats just my interpretation because it has more output or has better components, but am a lot happier with it. Also realised europe model seemed quite quiet because I use the sony ex71 earbuds, which I realised are great but fairly quiet after trying the earphones that came with it and finding them much louder. After reading some stuff on this saying you really got to get headphones around the 110db mark and the EX71's are 100db. Will wait unitl my ex71's die out and maybe treat myself to some e3c's!
  5. bugger thats rubbish. I was redaing on here that they were looking to hardware upgrade current mds to have capacity to play other formats and that the new models were going to be able to do this. Is that true? or just salacious gossip?!
  6. Thanks Jenna, I was hoping you could do something like that and it was just sonic stage being arsey. Maybe the next sonicstage they bring out wont have the ridiculous atrac only stuff or their miserable copywrite poo. Can you do this in hi-md mode, and mix mp3 with atrac?
  7. Hey everyone.... I know that you can't transfer music to a hi-md via sonic stage unless its via atrac but is there any other way you can transfer mp3's to listen to, i.e. through hi-sp when the md is set to the pc as a storage device or something. I say this 'cos when I brought my new md it stated in the description: "Plays Back in ATRAC3 Audio, ATRAC3plus Audio and Supports Multiple Audio Formats (MP3, WMA, WAV)" What I took by that was like my sony atrac cd player I used to have, you could chose to listen to wav, mp3's and atrac. I think maybe my sony atrac cd player lulled me into a false sense of security..... should have taken more notice of the 'and supports' part. If there is NO WAY at all (even by being creative) of getting to listen to mp3s on my nh900 (which is a bit rubbish of sony) which would be the best way to convert my 192kps mp3s to atrac while minimising double deteriation from recoding twice. Would it be benefical to convert to atrac3+ 256kps or better to go for the atrac3 132 (or something like that) kps cheers, all you lovely, lovely people
  8. okay, I may have been jumping the gun a little! I put the md on to charge for the first time last night and it came up with 'charging' in english, so I guess it doesn't need converting. I just thought as audiocubes gave instructions on that page then their models would need the language setup changing. In a massive pile of stupidity I forgot to take out the one hi-md I had recorded out of the UK unit someone on ebay bought! my pc's being upgraded at the mo so I cant even check my new baby out yet! doh! shall try recording a gig tonight though.... apologies for posting up irrelevant question!
  9. hi, audiocubes have instructions on thier website for changing the set-up display from japanese to english on the sony NH900JE minidisc but it is coming up as corrupt/rubbish. I could see it on my other pc thats being upgraded at the moment. Other japanese/chines etc fonts work on other websites I look at. Can someone tell me somewhere else that will have this info. I dont want to just start pressing random things on my minidisc! Thank you!
  10. hey everyone, I just sold my uk nh900 'cos the 3mv headphone output sucked. I since ordered a nh900 world tourist model from audiocubes (on its way) for the charger, the m40 remote and the 5mv output. Browsing on their site it I noticed it said that the world version NH700 has a headphone output of 3mv+3mv, which is the euro-crapped level! I have emailed audiocubes and they state that 'sony do not give out this information' and to try you guys. Now we all know this is poo because how did they have written on the website that the world tourist version of the NH700 is only 3mv+3mv? Come to think of it, whats the difference between the NH700 and 900? I cant see any, bar a carger cradle! Thank you muchly....
  11. Hey, its not feasible to buy hi-md new for $200, but i just sole my black hi-md with all accessories for about $190. I was looking at the US ebay and if you're prepared to go for a unit that someone's had for a while i reckon you could manage it. Just find your person on ebay and sign up to www.autionsniper.com, they'll place your maximum bid for a few cents seconds before it ends. i wouldn't win anything without it!
  12. Thank you Kurisu! You'll be sorry I ever signed up when I get into live recording/other stuff apart from basic atrac conversions... head scratching a-plenty! Sorry to hear about your work rant by the way... (quite funny though!). I got passed up for promotion for years, because although really smart and good at my job my personality made me too much of a (ahem) liability, I think. I realised that i wasn't ever going to get anywhere so I polished up my acting skills and now spend time around my employees pretending to be miss company focused team orientated dedicated employee, and being a relatively subversive boss with my team when the management aren't around. Play the game without sucking too much C.C.! its a fine art, a fine art.... btw, why dont they just provide ALL chargers with the capacity for 100-240v. They're so bloody tight.
  13. ah sod it.... cancelled all orders, stopped being tight and spent the extra cash on a world tourist version from audiocubes. At least i can charge it wherever I go now.... Oh... and I did mention kurisu sent me!
  14. Heres what I was trying to explain! 'Most foreign AC Charger units are 110-240v, including the iPod, iPod mini, 100% of camcorders, most PDA's and more. If the AC charger unit is 110v only , this is not for you!' Do I just need to buy a bog standard AC charger plug type unit, or does it actually have to convert the voltage as well... is the USnh900 110V only, or will it take 240v? I know what I mean!
  15. Thanks Nismo, appreciate it. Are you guys still looking for donations to the site? If you are give me the pay-pal address. cheers
  16. Thanks Mrsoul, I've already ordered a nh-14wn and the 40ELK remote as it was cheaper to do that than buy the world version. Only problem is I've already ordered the US version and now I'm getting twitchy that it wont charge in the UK. Cen anyone out there tell me if the US version will charge in the Uk with 240v? Help! gotta cancel the order and stump up for the world version if not. Anyone out there?
  17. apologies for the spelling. Will promise to check my typing before posting in the future!
  18. Thanks ACP. Saves a few pennies! Does anyone else out there know if the US NH900 charger can take 240V? I don't really understand how a 'generic charger' would work? Do you plug it into the cradle or something?
  19. I think there will be a difference!! I recently bought a NH900 in england but promptly sold it again as apparantlt some french litigation has cause sony to 'eurocap' (eurocrap actually, if the moderator lets me say that!) the headphone output of europe models to 3mv (whatever that means) as opposed to 5mv for the rest of the world. My aunt is now bringing me one from the states because, although reasonable loud, all my firends have theirs turned up to max just to be acceptable. It hardley rocks out if you like loud music. I can't guarantee the greman one is eurocrapped but I'd check it out before getting one. Its not the colour, its the region.
  20. Thanks for that! I don't know what I'd do without this website. Its taught me loads about getting the best out of my minidisc. I'll definately keep the nh-900 over the nz1 and perhaps get a better rechargeable battery. One more thing!!! I've ordered a US version for my aunt to bring over from the states. Will I be able to use the charger in the UK with just aplug converter or do I have to buy the world version? With me finding the world version in the US for $389 and me ordering the US nh-900 for $249 I'd prefer the plug converter option! Thank you so much!
  21. Thanks alot people! I thought there wasn't much between them. Now off to get my aunt to pick me up a NH900 in the states to bring over when she visits. Really appreciate the advice. These minidiscs may be great but they're ****** complicated! Actually.... another thought. If the battery life is better on the NH1 because it has a Li battery instead of a N something type battery could you not just buy a better battery for the NH900?
  22. Hey there techie type people! Could you help out a newcomer to the minidisc scene? I recently brought a NH900 in the UK which I promptly sold again because I find the restricted sound output of the european version stoopid! I'm going to buy a minidisc in the states but could anyone tell me if its worth upgrading to the NH1? Is the increase in price mainly due to the case and the remote? Or are the components/sound quality better on the NH1. I'd upgrade if the components were a better build but I won't bother if its just more cosmetic. I listen to my minidisc for general music and I want to start recording local gigs I go to. Thanks people!
