  1. Ok tried the MD again today with my own optical out and success. Annoying to know that dust caused this entire problem. But satisfying to at last have the thing working. But for some reason when I record, the tracks arent seperating. I was led to believe by a friend that with an optical cable this was automatic. Oh well the most important thing is the MD is now recording at great quality once again. Thanks very much to everyone who helped me on this. Very much appreciated. iDiOt2
  2. Hey KJ Palmer. Thanks for all your advice. Anyway I was given a kinda mascara stick (kinda like a cotton bud) and I used that on the optical port yesterday and loads of dust came out. Then I tried using the optical out on my friends pc and tada I got a signal! Thanks a lot. Now Ill just test it out on my own home optical outs and see how I get on. Cant believe dust could cause such a problem. Feel kinda dumb to tell you the truth. Anyway thanks for your help and patience.
  3. Ok I gave the LINE IN port a a very thorough clean. I even used a straw and blew in to it to ensure it was clean but still no signal. Worth a shot though! Anyway could someone confirm the steps for me for the recording from an optical device on this machine? Thanks again guys.
  4. You may be right. god I hope its something that simple! Ill try that now. But can anyone confirm the steps for me for the recording from an optical device? As that may highlight where the hell Im going wrong! Thanks again guys.
  5. Im not quite sure if I understand what it is you are telling me. But let me try and answer a few questions. My CD Player is a Pioneer XC-L7 but I have also tried using the line out (optical) from a Sony Playstation 2 and a Kiss DP - 1000. I have not been able to receive a signal from any of these machines. Also I am not trying to play CD RW's to the mini disc. Im trying to play normal store bought CD's. My pc does not support Optical out and neither does my laptop (Dell Inspiron 5100). Now the cable Im using is brand new. It has worked for one of my friends and also when plugged in there is a red light which leads me to believe it is not in need of replacing. So anyway there we go. Annoying problem isnt it? Its driving me nuts here the last few days. So any more ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for all the help thus far. Youre very helpful.
  6. Yeah the red light appears all right. Any thoughts?
  7. Hi guys. Sorry that this question is so basic but Ive combed the forum looking for an answer and to no avail. My problem is that when I attach the optical cable to my cd player and then plug it into the LINE IN(OPTICAL) I recieve a message saying NO SIGNAL. Is there something really obvious Im doing wrong? Youll be making my day if you can help me with this. I havent used my MZ-R900 in about a year and am trying to re-familiarise myself with recording with it. Anyway like I said, any help would be fantastic. Thanks guys.
