  1. I took my nephew to a concert for his birthday and the band always lets me plug in to the board. They dedicated a song to my nephew so my sister really wants it. I transferred it to my laptop (which hd crashed and we can't get the data off it) Is there any way to retrieve this or do I have to play it via analog and record it that way? Thanks, Justin
  2. I have a rh910 and when I went to a concert, we plugged into the soundboard via a "Y" cable 1 mini into the MD and 2 male jacks going into the soundboard. It worked great but I went to another show the other day and asked the sound guy if I could plug in and he said he didn't know how to hook that up. For future reference, does anyone know specifically what to ask for when approaching a sound person? Thanks, Justin
  3. I have the RH910 Hi-MD recorder. I go to a certain concert each year and one of the band members just hooks his md up to the soundboard with a "Y" cable and then gives me the disc. In the past, I was not able to transfer it because I didn't have the recorder it was done on. I would prefer to use his again because I just got mine and I don't want to mess up my first recording on this show. If we record it on his (and I don't know his model but it is an older one-not Hi-MD)and he gives me the disc, will I be able to transfer it digitally or will I have to mess with analog again? If it's analog, any suggestions on the settings I should use for recording in a small loud place off the soundboard? Should I just use the automatic settings? I appreciate your help!

  5. I just bought a sony MZ-NF610 It has a line in so I was told I can only use a self powered microphone to plug into that. Sorry, I don't know much about this stuff but, what is this. Is that what they are called? I don't need anything fancy but the smaller the better. Is there any mics out there that can just plug into the jack and work off the battery of the MD recorder or do they make them with small batteries in the mic? I paid $70 for mine with all sorts of extras. Is that a good deal?
  6. I need an inexpensive md recorder that I can use to either plug into a soundboard with a "Y" cable or just put in a microphone in the jack. I'm not familiar with this stuff at all so I'm sorry if this is vague. I would love any suggestions. By the way, the music quality does not have to be perfect. Thanks, Justin
  7. I am looking for a inexpensive md player/recorder. I would like it for concerts so I need it to be able to have a microphone plugged into it.
  8. I got the audacity. I got the male to male cable. I got a $150 pcmcia soundcard with inputs and outputs. I plug into my headphone on the MD and plug into the line in on the computer (pcm card). I open audacity and I press record. It says it will take 77 hours but it is showing it recording. After 1 hour I press stop and try to play it back. I don't have anything that reads that type of file so I transfer it to a .wav file in audacity but when I try to play it even through Windows Media Player it plays but there is no sound? What am I doing wrong?
  9. Thanks for the info on the winnmd!! Do you know if it will work with the Sony mz-mf520d
  10. So I can just buy a digital soundcard and plug in cables and upload it like that? Do I upload it differently than what the instructions tell me to do where it loads it in the library? Thanks for your help!
  11. I'm sorry but this might as well be written in chinese (I don't speak chinese) Here is what I asked "I am in a band and we played last night out of state and wanted to use it as our demo. I am new to this media but I forgot my player so I borrowed one of the other bands player and just had it plugged in with a "Y" cable (I think). When I got back tonight to transfer it, it wouldn't transfer to my computer. It had and error that said "unable to transfer". I spoke with the guy a Sony and he said that it can't be done. Am I out of luck. This show was smokin hot and I need your help. Please let me know what to do. It is a Sony mz-mf520d" Helpful person said "Well, all hope isn't lost. If you want to upload live recordings made on your Minidisc unit, there are ways you can upload, albeit realtime, that can produce satisfying results. One of the most common solutions is to buy a male-to-male stereo cable from a place such as Radio Shack. You take this cord, plug one end into the HEADPHONE out or LINE out on the unit and plug the other end to the MIC or LINE in on your computer. Using a freeware program such as Audacity is good for facilitating these types of uploads, but there are many other programs as well. A good soundcard is also recommended, and the cheapest solution with sound quality that outpreforms near-$150 sound cards is discussed here. Another way to upload is to purchase a sound card with a DIGITAL input and a Minidisc deck or bookshelf with digital out. You can then upload digitally, albeit realtime. Unfortunately, there is NO inexpensive way to upload faster than realtime for non - Hi-MD units. " Is there a cheaper way to do this??
  12. Can I upgrade to any other model that I would be able to do so with? That way I don't have to run in to this problem down the line.
