thanks for everyone's advice! I got the battery module and I'm ready to record a show tonight. 2 quick questions: 1. do I still need to use the Radio shack volume attenuator? Should I? If I'm plugging the battery powered mic into the line in then its not necessary and will in fact be a hinderance, correct? 2. what setting do I put the MD at, should I just start using the auto levels and let it fly? Should I go in manually and turn the levels all the way up to 30? Or should I use manula levels and continue stting them between 12 and 17 depending on the decibles of the show, like usual? thank you guys!

which mic battery / bass roll-off unit do you gouys own or recommend buying for bass heavy concert recording on a minidisc?

is that the same as soundforge? if different, is it better?

Please help me out here, so I can get an amazing show to my friends! I taped a concert on hd minidisc. I'm going to offload it in sonicstage to my computer tonight. I have to raise some of the levels because I recorded it really low to try and prevent distortion as much as possible. The recording came out really good, but it's way too quiet. What is the best software for tweaking the levels? Thanks!

thank you sooo much for all your advice or opinions. It was too late to hit B&H but so good to know about for the future! I should have thought to go there. In the end I used a paper clip and a binder clip to jmmy rig some semblance of a proper clip. It worked out ok. But pretty rediculous looking. Thanks again for everyones help!

Somehow I lost one of the clips for my SP-BMC-2 with Audio Technica Clips from Sound Professionals. I guess because I was recording in stealth, I didnt realize the clip had fallen out of my pocket. So I must record a show tonight. And I doubt I'm going to fnd a replacement clip in the city today. Does anyone know either: 1. Where can I buy a replacemet clip in New York City? or 2. How can I come up with a way to hold the mic in place tonight? please let me know some genius suggestion!

Thanks for the response! You know everything about MD, I'm way jealous. I will try the MDAC Repair Tool right now. I just dont get why they have to lock files I recorded myself. Oh well. It just seems silly because I'm gonna burn a disc and then rip it back onto the computer so the songs are all eventually unlocked and remain completely digital. As for the sound quality. I totally agree with you, there shouldnt be a problem. But when I burn a disc in sonic stage directly from the OMA's the sound quality (especially in the bass) is much cleaner than if I burn the converted wav files (the bass gets distorted). I think it must be my computer. Thanks for the info and the possible solution!

I have two laptops, one at work, one at home. Both run XP with Sonicstage 3.3. My minidisc recorder is the MZ-RH10. For whatever reason I could not get SS on my home laptop to recognize my minidosc (it has always worked flawlessly in the past). So I took the md to work and transfered the files off it there. They are personal recordings I made at a concert on New Years Eve. I didn't have time to burn them at work so instead I uploaded them to a server and then downloaded them to my home computer when I got home. I just imported them into SS and it wont let me listen to them or burn them. Is there any way to get these files to burn. I don't really understand why they wont or how Sony's copyright protection works, but I'm so annoyed. I just want to burn a cd of the music I recorded. Can anyone help? As a side note, I always burn a cd from the original OMA files because I've found that when I convert to wav first the sound quality suffers dramatically. Anyone know why that is? Is it that my soundcard is not up to parr? I really appreciate any thoughts!

Thank you so much for responding! I m not sure thats it. I burned a cd and put it on with headphones and the decrease in quality is pretty big. Do your recordings sound exactly the same on the minidisc and the burned cd?

Hi! It's been a while since I've been around, I apologize. I spent a few months getting everything right and then just put it all away to deal with life. But I pulled out my minidisc this weekend and using everything I had discovered and learned from you guiys, I made an amazing recording at a show this weekend! So I used my MZ-RH10 with the radioshack attenuator and the Sound Professionals BMC-2. The recording came out amazing! Listening to it directly on the player is a surreal experience. It sounds like you are right there in the room again. But then I transferred it to the computer and convertered it to Wav and burned a cd and all of a sudden the volume is too quiet and the bass is a little iffy, the bass went from warm and perfect to humming and distorted. What happenes when the music transfers to the computer? Is there any reason why I would be loosing quality? I thought maybe it was my soundcard, but when you transfer into sonic stage using the USB connection the soundcrd doesn't have any effect, does it? Any suggestions? When I pumped up the volume using audacity to normalize it and/or amplify, it just made the bass sound much worse!

so my unit has that problem... what should I do with it? Take it back to the store or contact sony? Who at sony do I contact? Do you think I will have to give up my unoit for a long time? Thanks for the heads up!

Yes, it has an external battery case that screws on and holds one AA battery. I sold my NHF800 yesterday, so the colection is widdilling down

Thanks for the nice words... You guys have been an amazing resource to me, so this was the least I could do. As per the RM-MC40ELK, for the amount it's gonna cost I think it makes a lot more sense to just get the MZ-R10 with the included remote.
