Update: I got the service manual for this and learned quite a bit about the marantz. I am missing the microprocessor board (PQ01 ) from the unit. Interestingly, there were apparently several versions of the board which accomplished a few upgrades: allow 80 minute discs and some REC date/time compatibilty to other machines. I imagine now that the previous owner of this rig might have cannabalized the board for an upgrade ? I'm not sure I can just install another board without some setup for which I am not equipped. Might have to pay for someone who owns certain instruments. OK so that was fun.

OK. I must have a bonehead gene. Now, I own a dead Marantz PM650 from eBay that's missing a PC board inside. Otherwise this seems like an unused unit. Waiting for service manual so I can get smarter. Looks like I need to buy another PMD650 to get this card unless I can find one in some parts place somewhere ... no luck yet ... (The card is piggybacked onto the Sony drive mechanism). I will say this beast is put to gether real nicely and it's a breeze to get inside. Unless someone wants to buy this project off me !! Please PM or reply to whitvt@gmavt.net Thanks. Tom
