I am currently on SS 3.4 for my MZ-RH910. Should I upgrade to 4.x? I use the MD only to record music and then transfer to a computer. I never use it as a player.

What I would like to know is really simple: what is the purpose of the remote? Since it is attached to the device, how does it make things easier? I plan on purchasing a Hi-MD unit solely for recording purposes. It seems the remote would have no benefit for me.

Thanks for the answer. I did some more reading and I have come to find out that there is no digital-out, and the line out is shared with the headphone jack. I was interested in a MD unit, but the DRM issues are too much. Going to stick to other devices for now.

I haven't been able to see images for the sides of a Hi-MD players, so I do not know exactly what the outputs there are. According to the specs, there is only a headphone out and USB output. How does the USB output look like? Also, some of the recording equipment I have (soundcards, mixers, etc...) indicate that they accept digital signals from various sources, including Minidisc. I do not see any digital output from the Hi-MD on the specs. Is it that there is no digital output on the portable units, or am I missing something? Thanks in advance.
