  1. Great, that's what I was confused about. The distortion is just because of headroom, not being overwhelmed by bass, so a battery box is all I need. I was curious because one of my outings was to the annual Techno Festival in Detroit. The music was Very boomy, but the distortion wasn't that much more than a regular concert. OK, a battery box it is! Thank so much
  2. I'm new to recording, having just done a couple outdoor concerts. I have a RH10 with small binaural SP mics. The recordings are OK, but I have noticable distortion from the bass and bass drums. I've read that a battery box will help with this. My question is, do I need to get the optional bass rolloff? And, if so, how do I know which of the 7 rolloff positions to use? I've tried to read past posts, but I'm just getting more and more confused. I've been recording with manual levels set to 9 or 10 for headroom, and with the sensitivity set to loud music. Thanks
  3. Just got my three batteries in today. Has anyone figured if these are new batteries, or if they might come from returned units? I noticed that the three I recieved had a partial charge on them right from the package, and that the plastic case looked a bit scuffed. Either way it's a fantastic price. I won't have to buy AA's for quite a while. Also, once charged how long will they keep a full charge out of the unit. In other words, how far ahead of time can I charge them before I need them, and still have a full charge? Thanks Randy
  4. I don't know of any software that will automatically load podcasts on a minidisc. There are programs that will automatically upload to an iPod, and also manage the files i.e. delete them once the have been listened too. I would love to see someone come up with something like this for minidiscs. It seems that software is always the main problem with minidiscs Randy
  5. both stores out of stock. I'm not in a big hurry to get the unit. I just wondered if the will be available in the future?
  6. Yeah, the MZ-NH900. I looked at Amazon, Minidisco, and a number of others and they are all out of stock. That's why I asked if it was discontinued. It was suggested that I wait till next month or so when the new models come out, so that I can get a discounted price. But with so many etailers out of stock, I wondered if I should wait. Thanks again Randy
  7. I've been looking at your suggestions, and I think the the mz900 would fit my needs, but I see that it's very hard to find this unit. Is it discontined ir just in short supply? You recommend that I wait until the price drops, but I wonder if it will be available then? Any thoughts? Thanks again
  8. Thanks both of you for your suggestions. I think you've saved me some money. I'll be checking your recommendations and will decide soon. Thanks, Randy
  9. Ok, I'm 50 and confused. I want to buy a hi-md recorder/player but can't figure which is best for my needs. I want to be able to record occasional concerts (none that are super loud but maybe a stealth one sometimes). I want to be able to do some soundseeing tours, so I need a sensitive mic, and I need to be able to record my new granddaughter as she begins to talk. I'd want to upload the recording to my PC and edit them. I've been looking at the soon to be released Sony MZ-RH10 or the Sony MZ-RH910 but don't know if they wil do what I want. I also need help selecting mics and maybe a battery box. Can somone recommend some from Sound Professionals? Thanks so much, Randy
