  1. And don't forget, you will need a battery box to go with your new mics. $250 was my kind of budget when I looked. I ended up with $179 on a set of Sound Professionals CMC-2 cardioids (and clips), and $79 on an Sound Professionals SP-SPSB-1 battery box with bass roll-off option. Total $259. Well, I also got a croakie mount to go with these, for $7, which I fitted myself. Another option is standard Core Sound Binaurals - you may be able to get this for a lower cost than standard (standard it comes with a battery box for around $260 I think), as you already have a battery box with your low-cost CSBs (don't you?). I haven't seen these MM Sennheisers being talked about really. You may be better off going with tried and trusted kit - like the Sound Pros CMC-2 / -4 / -8, or the standard Core Sound Binaurals. Another possibility with Sound Pros is to buy a set of CMC-8s ($239?) which are slimline premium Audio Technicas. You can buy these either as Omni, or Cardioid. The advantage of these (apart from being great mics themselves) is that you can buy swappable elements for them - Omni / Cardioid / Hypercardioid and another I can't remember. Each extra set costs another $119 last time I looked. If I'd had the money, this would have been the route I'd taken.
  2. If you can get away with it then yes, sounds like a good idea to me. But don't be too disheartened, £109.99 for an NH900 is still a very good price. I got my MZ-NH1 primarily for recording, and its been excellent - the only issues I have (and this applies to all 1st generation Sony Hi-MD models) are that: 1. It doesn't remember the auto/manual recording switch settings. So each time you start a recording, you have to choose manual recording levels beforehand. Annoying, annoying, Sony. 2. You can only upload your recordings over USB once. Annoying, annoying, Sony. The reasons I went for the NH1 rather than the NH900 were: Build quality - the NH1 case is all magnesium, NH900 is part plastic. Size (smaller than the NH900, and excellent for stealth recording) Time/date stamping
  3. Unbelievable. I thought I'd got a good deal (I did actually) when I secured an MZ-NH1 for £170 about 4 weeks ago. I'd decided on an MZ-NH900 for £150 but then I stumbled across a web-site that had the MZ-NH1 listed at £170 - which was their mistake, but they agreed to honour the price. Amazon were quoting £219.99 at the time. I was delighted and ordered it - and I'm very happy with it. But imagine my shock when I saw the new price on Amazon And the 900 at £69.99 is a steal. If I had the cash, I'd get one as a back-up.
