  2. See below. Can someone explain to me why the max volume on my R90 sounds much louder than the max volume on the DR7? Headphone: maximum output level 8mW+8mW (32 ohms, RMS), Line: 250mV (load impedance 10Kohms) [sharp DR7] Headphone: maximum output level 5mV+5mV (16 ohms, RMS), Line: 194mV (load impedance 10Kohms) [sony R90]
  3. Are you sure you don't mean a non-HiMD recorder? IIRC HiMD recorders are the ones with the modified (lower bitrate) ATRAC3plus SP recording mode (~256kbps) compared to the original ATRAC SP mode (~292 kbps). MDLP recorders ADD the LP2/4 recording modes in addition to the original SP mode. In any case ATRAC3plus is the next generation of the standard, and the FAQ purports that there should be improvements in sound quality even at lower bitrates. Even then, your HiMD recorder records in PCM if you're really concerned about sound quality. I guess I don't really understand the rationale of buying another recorder based on older technology for a ~36 kb improvement.
  4. What could a non-MDLP recorder do that a MDLP compatible one couldn't?
