Same problem on Sharp MD-DR480H(S). Tried sliding laser assembly back and forth with no luck. Was about to give up and toss it, and figured I had nothing to lose -- so I smacked the daylights out of it 3 times with my palm. Works now, what a pile. Very disillusioned with Sharp at this point, don't think I'd buy another Sharp MD.
