I have a 1st gen HiMD (NH-1) which does NOT do mp3, and was hoping someone might be able to answer a question. I use version sonicStage 3.4. I record music practices in the format that allows me to record 2hrs 20 min (forget what it's called but it's fine for that purpose) and then copy the files to my PC. I edit the files that I want to keep in another program and then often want to copy the edited version of the files back to MD. However, I can never seem to get nearly the same amount of music BACK to the MD as I was able to record onto the MD. Is there a way to copy them back in the same format that I had recorded them in so that I can actually fit as much material back onto the MD? please reply to kmataruse@hotmail.com Thanks much, Kim

I am in the process of boxing up my NH900, which I've had for under 3 months due to various problems. Wondering if anyone else on the list has experienced this degree of "pain". One other person I know has had to return his new HiMD, got a refurbished, and has similar problems with THAT one too! So there are 3 HiMD recorders that I know about. 1) I wrote about this shortly after getting my NH900 and rec'd very little response other than I must not be recording. I also own a R70 and have used that one for 4+ years so I'm not a complete novice when it comes to this media. The problem was that I would record a two hour band practice (on a new standard MD), pause occasionally to create a track mark, and somewhere near the end of the 2 hours, the player would stop and erase the contents of my disc. The record icon had been displaying every time i went over to the MD, and I know it was in record mode. This happened perhaps 3-4 times over the past few months...with different discs every time. 2) that combo stop/pause button on the 900 is a joke and a half. When I press stop, sometimes it takes 5 times of pressing it to actually get it to stop. 3) the latest problem however, makes the unit unusable. I insert a disc (I've tried many different discs, both used and new, and the unit drive starts making a searching noise and won't stop the noise, or read the disc. So...I called Sony and was told that my choices are to have the player repaired, or receive a refurbished unit, not a new replacement but a refurbished. If I choose to have it repaired and they cannot fix it, still my only option is refurbished. How do they get away with this bad support policy? My friend had problems 2 and 3 with his first HiMD unit, and repair told him they couldn't repair so they sent a refurb of an older HiMD model-they don't even give you the same model. Now he's having the same problems with THAT one! in frustration.... Kim

I've had my NH900 for about a month now. I use it to record our 7 piece marimba band practices and performances-very loud. I've now experienced these drop outs on several occasions and on any number of new, standard MD discs. Never ever had this problem with my old R70. My NH900 is from UK although I use it in U.S. 1. I was wondering if it could have anything to do with the music being too loud and causing these gaps-perhaps from overload/spiking-VU too high? 2. One time, I put the MD on the stage and we were jumping around a lot and I wondered if this could cause the gaps? Anyone have any opinions on either of those possibilities or is the consensus that it is a hardware issue that I need to follow up with Sony? Thanks. Kim

Thanks very much. I will your suggestion a try. I'd be fine even with 5 hours ))

I'm trying to get used to my new NH900 but have been having some problems. The latest is this... Last night, I recorded our band's practice. I paused several times throughout the night in order to create new tracks. I may have filled the disc but not sure, it supposedly had 2 hours 20 minutes of record time on my standard 80 minute disc, and our practice was a little longer but I stopped the MD a few times during the session so maybe full maybe not quite. At one point, I put the player (using the remote control with the backlight) in pause because I didn't want to record that section. Then, when I went to unpause, it was in stop mode. I hit the jog button on the remote to get it in play mode, and the next thing I know, I was reading the words blank disc on the remote. I'm "certain" I did not hit the menu button while pressing the jog, but even if I HAD pressed it once, from the instruction manual it looks like you have to press it several times in order to access the ERASE disc function. Anyone have a clue as to what may have happened here? I really don't want to repeat this one. Thanks Kim

1. I admit it, I tried out the NH -10WM battery that came with my NH900. I'm planning to get the better capacity battery that I've read about here, but in the meantime I wanted to see just how long this one would last. I charged the battery according to the instructions in the user manual. I then proceeded to use the MD to PLAY (not record) some of my recordings. I swear it did not last more than an hour. Is this typical? 2. I did a second test using AA batteries without the gumstick. First I used a new dry Alkaline, non-rechargeable battery. I recorded our band for about 45 minutes of play time in HiMD on a standard 80min disk. Did a beautiful job and still had 2/3 battery juice left according to the meter. Then, I used my fully charged AA 2400mAh NiMH battery, in another recording session. This time, I also had my remote hooked up (the one that came with the 900). It did not last more than 30 minutes, and while it WAS recording, it would stop recording at random points, and I'd have to restart the record again. I guess there are 2 problems I'm asking about here. With my old R70, I could use 1 NiMH AA for hours and hours. a. Has anyone noticed that the NiMH provide less life than the dry alkaline batteries? b. Has anyone had your MD just randomly shut off while recording? Thanks. Kim

Yay! Thank you.

>Answer to 2: No, you can certainly use NiMH. AA battery act as a supplement to extend operation time. Just to make sure I clearly understand. Are you saying that yes I can use my NiMH AA? I have a bunch of rechargable AA batteries that are not alkaline --they are NiMH AA. The NH900 manual clearly states alkaline AA and years ago I recall there were problems with some electronics when you mixed battery types. Just don't want to screw up my new machine Thanks very much. Perfect! Thank you. Kim

I'm confused about the NH900 batteries. I see that it comes with the gumstick and from reading posts it sounds as if I should upgrade that soon. However, I wanted to use the AA battery by itself for most of my needs. 1. Does anyone have opinions about using just the AA battery and not the gumstick? 2. The manual says to use an Alkaline AA. Does that mean I cannot use my NiMH AA batteries? 3. My player came with Sonic Stage ver.2.0 Can I get version 3 somewhere here or elsewhere? Thanks. Kim

It is indeed a 100-240V adaptor but the plug definitely won't fit in any outlet I have )) Where can I purchase this type of plug adaptor? Thanks again. Kim

I'll try to pick one up today. Thank you so much! Kim ============================ Welcome to the forum; and sorry for the delayed response. Instead of a UK-->US plug adaptor (since you would still need to get a 240-->100V transformer to properly convert the voltage), I think you should just go for a 100-240V AC Adaptor. You could easily obtain the 100-240V AC adaptor from a SonyStyle store (if there is one near your location), BestBuy or RadioShack. These stores will likely carry the Sony AC-E30A Worldwide 3V AC Adaptor; and it should cost about $19.99 to $24.99. If you can’t locate the Sony AC-E30A Worldwide 3V AC Adaptor, RadioShack should have a generic alternative. Specs of Sony AC-E30A Worldwide 3V AC Adaptor Input voltage: 100 - 240 V AC, 50/60 Hz Rated Output Voltage: DC 3.0 V Rated Output Current: 1,000 mA Power Consumption: 6.0 W Cord Length: 6 ft, 6 in ←

I posted this msg yesterday and haven't rec'd a single reply. Should I be asking this in a different forum? thanks much. =============================== I just received my NH900 today. I can't wait to use it and will initially be using a battery, because....I need a UK --> US plug adaptor for the 3Volt power supply that came with it. I have an old Sony 3V power supply but it says Output: DC 3V 500mA and the one that came with my NH900 says Output: DC 3V 1A I read somewhere on these forums that it wasn't advised to use the old supply with my new MD. So, my question is...where can I buy a plug adaptor so I can use the new power supply? I'm in the U.S. in case it wasn't obvious.
