  1. HALLELUJAH!!! Did registry thing, got a bit further in the installation, but then aborted again, but then tried installing stand-alone in desperation and managed to get past earlier codecs stumbling block. is installed!!!! (knock on wood that there are no more problems) Thanks for your help. Kate EDIT: I can't believe it. ARGH! After re-boot tried to open sonicstage. It says it can't find the Open MG Secure Module. Opened registry editor. Open MG and Open MG Jukebox are clearly there. I can find it, why can't my computer??!@%@* Tried opening Simple burner - it tells me a fatal error has occured, I should reboot or re-install. I click ok and another error pops up, saying "NETMDSB.exe" has errors. I can't believe that I've spent more than 10 hours stressing over installing this stupid thing!!!!
  2. Hi! I tried installing it at home (with the 738kb ss installer file) and it connected and "retrieved data", it began installing and was really happy... but then when it gets to the installation of 'OpenMG Limited Patch' and it terminates the installation. I read other posts on this and this problem usually seem to happen when previous versions of ss have not been uninstalled properly... however I have never (successfully) installed any version of ss on my computer. I attempted to install version 2.x from the cd when I first got my md but it wouldn't work, and now I've tried installing 3.x several times to no avail. I checked control panel and there is definitely no ss program to uninstall. argh. what's going on??? Thanks, Kate. EDIT: Sorry, just read a post by A440, which explained that my problem may be caused by half-installed versions, and should be deleted using registry... does this mean registry editor? argh scary. EDIT of EDIT: Just read the FAQ and have figured out how to use editor. will delete OPEN MG stuff and try installing again!
  3. ok, good idea I'm going home in a few weeks so I'll try downloading it then... will let you know in a few weeks how I go... thanks Kate
  4. I tried downloading and installing from asia-pacific website and encountered the same problem - ie, "cannot connect... are you connected to the internet??" tried searching the sony australia website for sonic stage downloads but couldn't find it. any other ideas? thanks for all your help. Kate
  5. I tried that earlier - downloaded SonicStageInstaller.exe from sony.jp but it couldn't find an internet connection. Possibly because am behind university firewall. Kate
  6. Thanks for your reply It ALMOST worked.... I followed the suggestions in those posts... created a 'Downloads' folder under C:/Doc & Setting/Admin/desktop etc when I tried to install ss, it got one step further than usual... a screen came up saying "downloading wmpcodex9x.exe" and there was a bar down the bottom with the label "connecting", however it came up again with the usual msg about failing to install. Thanks Kate
  7. Hi, Have tried re-installing WMP and tried the WMFDist.exe file, but neither fixed the problem... when SS installation aborts because it "failed to download WMP9Codecs", it says that it is because it is unable to open C:/Documents and Settings/Administrator/D.... (I assume 'D...' means desktop, thats the only folder starting with D in that directory...) Does this mean anything? I am logged in as administrator on my computer. Thanks for your help! Kate
  8. Hi! Thanks for that, I downloaded directX and installed it. However! I went to install sonicstage again, but this time it came up with a thing saying "failed to download WMP9 Codecs, please install manually" I installed the WMP9 Codecs from the windows website, and tried installing sonicstage again, however it keeps trying to download the codecs through the ss installer, and then failing and aborting. argh. Suggestions?? Thanks so much Kate
  9. Sorry forgot to add details... OS=Windows 2000, DirectX already on computer seems to be version 9??
  10. Hi, I've had lots of problems installing SonicStage. I tried downloading 3.1 from the sony.jp site, and it came up with an error saying that data could not be retrieved, check internet connection... so I downloaded the version in the downloads section, where everything is included and you don't need an extra net connection. That was good... however! I got about 10% of the way through the installation and a message pops up that says "directX could not be installed, install manually". Which is very odd, seeing as I already have it installed on my computer. I hate computers. Can anyone help me? I really want to be able to use this program! Thanks, Kate
