Rather swimming against the tide (in the US at least) I have recently become an avid user of Minidisc technology - and I have both a Sony RH10 (HiMD) and a Sharp DS-80 (NetMD). I went for the SHarp as well since I read so many people's reports about how good the digital amp was in their players. I have sonicstage 3.1 on my PC - all questions here relate to using SS3.1 to transfer files from my PC , or my PC's CD player, to NetMD-formatted discs (needed for the Sharp) I really have tried to look for the answers to this question in this and other boards, and it may be there, but I am just not getting it I guess. However I transfer the songs (lets take for example Alicia Keys song Fallin') it always ends up in LP2 format, at a size of 3.9mb. This happens whether I opt to import it from the CD directly to the library first (opting for WAV format), or whether I first encode it in LAME mp3 format at 320CBR, or even convert the mp3 to WAV and then try to transfer it. So, despite the original files being of widely different sizes, it always ends up the same on the minidisc, even though I opt in Sonicstage to transfer 'as is' and for the program to ask me if it cannot transfer it that way. Can someone briefly explain why? What is the best way to maximize the quality of what ends up on the minidisc in NetMD format? I have just downloaded the M3U2Sb program which uses the combination of simpleburner and DaemonTools/Nero - can that get better quality files on the NetMD disc? How do I get original SP qulity on there (i.e. the 292bps rate)? BTW - the quality, even at LP2, seems very good to my old ears, so its just that I am particularly dissatisifed, just curious. Thanks.
