That worked! Thank you. Simply installing that did it.

Just uninstalled it using the FAQ, installed 3.4 from here and re-used the MDAC repair tool, I still get the same error. However I tried the "Database problems with Sonicstage" solution" in the FAQ but ran into a couple dead-ends. Section 2 * Click on the [start] button and select [Run...]. In the dialog box type explorer and click on [Ok]. * Click on the [Tools] menu and select [Folder Options]. Click on the [View] tab. * In the [Advanced settings:] section select the option to [show hidden files and folders]. Click on [Apply] [Ok]. * Go to the folder [C:\Windows\Inf]. * Right click on either [MDAC.INF] or [MSACINST.INF], whichever file is present, and then click on [install]. <----- (I only found MDACINSTL.inf, after right clicking it there was no "[install]" button visible) * If you are prompted for your Microsoft Windows CD, insert the <----- (I do not have my Windows CD) Windows CD into your CD drive, click on the [browse] button and go to either the [C:\I386] or the [C:\Windows\I386] folder on your hard disk and click on [Open]. Click on the [Ok] button. * If you are not prompted for your Windows CD, click on the [browse] button and go to either the [C:\I386] or the [C:\Windows\I386] folder on your hard disk and click on [Open]. Click on the [Ok] button. * Restart your computer.

Thanks! Any help would be appreicated. I found a handful of topics on this using google, and as far as I know It's been given a cold shoulder. I don't think anyone found a solution yet.

Tried the re-registering functions on that, still the problem persists.

Sup, people. It's been a few months since I last transfered music onto my MZ-N707 Net MD walkman using Sonic Stage 3.4, which worked fine back then by the way. Now I find there's a new version of Sonic Stage, so I install the 4.0 and it gives me this, and then says "Omgjbox" has "performed an illegal operation and will be shutdown". However I heard the American version doesn't work for other countries, so I tried a Canadian version and the 3.4 version found on this site.. and nothing !! . I have Windows 98. Can someone tell me what is happening and how I can fix this and make it work. PS: I also tried using RealPlayer, but that didn't work out either. Simply didn't "find" the device.

lol! Volta your right. The offical one works perfect!! Yes! Sorry I didn't drop a notice earlier, was just so excited I just started working on my music. Thanks Volta yeh save the day m8.

I guess the reason why I can't download Winmp 9 is my PC's fault. Just comes all displaced, no way of fixing that. So Winmp 9 and 10 are out of the question for my PC. And when I installed SS for the first time without any Winmp it simply said I need Winmp 7.1 or newer. I'm not sure that if I had Winmp 9 or 10 that it would furfill these "Missing Windows Media Files" from SS. Isn't Winmp 7.1 and Wmp9 codecs enough? Pretty much I'm giving it what it's asking for but I just don't know what that error message is asking for. I guess I need to know if Winmp 9 or 10 is essential to getting SS to work. If it is then I could easily do all this over again at a friend's PC. Solved. But if I don't need them then what are the files that SS says I am missing?? And I haven't tried that other download. What would be the difference?

Thing is that I can't download Winmp 9 or Winmp 10. So I really don't know if the error message is just saying I need a newer Winmp even though it says Winmp 7.1 is good enough. Ddooeessnn'tt make any sense.

Thanks. Did that. Did what Volta suggested. Nada. In the end SonicStage says "Cannot locate needed files related to Windows Media format. Exiting SonicStage"

I did a clean reinstall and did that. Now the installtion goes smoothly. But I'm back to the same problem I had when SonicStage installed fine. I did what you said & when I open SonicStage it still says "Cannot locate needed files related to Windows Media Format. Exiting SonicStage". I think this is seperate from the installtion issue. What do I need to do or download? I currently have Winmp 7.1 and running Windows 98.

My PC won't allow me to download Winmp 9, not sure if it's a problem. I was trying to figure out if Sonic Stage wasn't working before when it actually installed because I only had Winmp 7.1 instead of Winmp 9. Despite I didn't have Wmp9 installed yet maybe the Wmp9 codecs. So do you think Sonic Stage would run without Winmp 9? And if it did where do I get these elusive WMP9 codecs that function & how to install them correctly. This part in the FAQ you added is confusing, I guess if your not a com wiz. 3. Start -> Run -> regedit. The 'Registry Editor' utility should appear on your screen. Delete the references to OpenMG located under 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Sony Corporation/Sonicstage' and 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Sony Corporation' by right-clicking on the entries. Does entries apply for folders? Do you delete the folders or all the files to the right? Does Jukebox count as OpenMG? That's all that messes me up there.. This is either very hard, very messed up or very restricted.

Nice. Seems the whole Sonic Stage is messed up. I was really depending on it too. Before It wouldn't install for some reason, whinning about WMP9 codecs when I already installed them. Now out of nowhere and for some unexplainable reason it installed correctly along with everything else. *Now* when I start it up it claims Windows Media Player files are missing and here I am right now trying to reinstall it with the same problem in the beginning. Why can't anything work? It says it's so simple when it's so complicated and unreliable.

For some reason the installtion went fine. It downloaded & installed about six programs all by itself. I start it up and it simply says "Cannot locate needed files related to Windows Media Format. Exiting SonicStage." That makes no sense to me. Does anyone know what to do or download in this case? I manually downloaded Windows Media Player 7.1 along with codecs & running Win 98.

I got one more question for yeh. What is the offical storage capacity of the MZ-N707 for transferring music? Because alot of FAQ's mention compression I hear it's 5 hours of mp3 files. But doesn't it range depending on what mode of comnpression you set it. And if you do I hear it effects the quality of the sound if you increase the capacity.
