Well, thank you for this extremely helpful and comprehensive answer! At least I now know what to do.

I have just bought a Sony Net MD Walkman, MZ-N710, and have installed downloaded and installed SonicStage 3.1 on my PC. And then spent several hours trying to upload tracks recorded on the Walkman onto my PC so I can burn them onto CDs. But SonicStage gives me the error message "Unable to transfer to the computer". More hours trying to work out what's going wrong, and I read this thread on this bulletin board. Have I understood right? That I can't do what I bought it to do? Sorry to be thick, but isn't this the point of MD recorders? Any thoughts or suggestions much appreciated! If there's some other software I can download to do this, please let me know...
