Well, I've never had an occasion to use NH1, but in comparsion with my previous N910, it doesn't have jog dial, it doesn't display titles on unit's screen, you can not switch groups, and change sound presets on unit(I don't clearly remember if N910 could do this last two things, rather not). It loses a lot without remote, and with it, You're wrapped in cables. But, when I said that it's an average player, I was rather comparing it with available Mp3 players like Ipod, or Iaudio. I really love MD's and I agree that they have their charm, but steel I think that as an portable players, all of them are quite difficult to use.

I think that all the drawbacks that you have stated are true, and I'm not going to argue about them, but I want to say something in favor of RH1, because I have the feeling, that we are not entirely fair about it. I have bought it just because it looked great, and I had to admit that as an portable player, it works in the similar way than an ordinary cd discman, except it's smaller. And that's nothing when we compare it to the usefulness of a most Mp3 players. But, when I have plugged it for recording, the ugly duck turned into a swan In this moment I have started to look at it from the view of it's designers, and for this use everything just worked. Disadvantages were not so important anymore, because while it was laying in the typical recording position - on the desk with line in plugged, it appeared to me that this is what that design was done for. As it was already told on this forum, we make a mistake, trying to fit it into portable player role. It's a great recorder, and just an average player, and in my personal opinion that's all. Well, it seems, that Sony sees the future of MD in this direction. That is why even if more units are going to be released, I'm not expecting them to be better portable players.

Well, no matter what they'll do, it will always be just an Ipod

I can hardly believe it, but it took me three weeks to acquire it, just because I wanted to buy it cheaper, and the shop where I've ordered it had been waiting for supply. But it's done and I have it finally

I was thinking about something designed for MD, but finally I've bought a Lowepro digital camera case, and it works great. I can fit in my RH1, 4 discs, and internal earphones(usually I use Senn Px200) just in case. And it's very durable. Here's the link: Lowepro Apex 60 AW

I see it in similar way. Although I don't think that new unit developed in this manner will drive out RH1. It was a bit similar with NH1 and cheaper models from it's generation. They were functioning together. I also think that no low budget model can turn people away from a beauty like RH1 One more thing about this possible new construciotn, I can bet, that if it will have LCD instead of OLED, what is likely to happen, it will not have a backlight or it will not display titles They always screw the display functions

I've just bought it and waiting for delivery, so I almost own one

As I have just bought the RH1, if anybody will turn this feature on, and describe the way to do it on the forum, I will greet him with a true polish beer, no matter where I'll have to post it

If it's possible to change this particular display setting, I suppose that somebody from this forum will do it, or will acquire knowledge how was it done sooner or later. It's the biggest gathering of MD freaks in the whole internet right? But I would not consider it easy. Or maybe it's not possible at all... When I think about the past moves of this producer, I come to thought, that yes, it could be not possible at all.

In Poland, what was quite surprising for me when I got interested in it, I can get Hi-minidiscs easily. I've seen some in audio shops, and big electronic malls, and if such places fail, there's still local Sony centre - they always have them. It goes the same way with RH1, I have found it in many shops, and in Sony store, sellers told me, that they remember to always have few on stock, because many people are buying them

Maybe You're right I have noticed that the longer I think about this RH1 unit, the more I like the idea of buying it. But still I leave myself some time to think it out.

Hello, I have decided to start this topic, because although I'm searching for info on this forum for guite a while, and I have found some thoughts and traces, it's hard for me to compile all the details, and find what I need to make a decision. That's why I hope, that people with personal experience of using NH1 and eventually RH1 will maybe help me with my problem. Well, after some while without using it, I would like to return to minidisc. That's why I want to buy some of the latest HI-Md models. I have excluded RH1 although it's really great, because, as I have written somewhere else on this forum, I do not like to use remotes, and it seems that it's necessary while using this model. That's why I have turned to NH1, because, well, it's the only other minidisc unit, that matches the beauty of RH1 and has some abilities also, and I have questions according to it. Could anybody tell me shortly, if there's any really important option, or function, that RH1 does have and NH1 doesn't? I use Md mainly for playback, I record gigs and interviews rather seldom. I don't have any old format discs(gave them to my friend some time ago), I would like to transfer music from my Pc.If there's any option, in NH1 that can be used only via remote(like track names and equailizer in RH1)? As I don't see any deep analysis of this model anywhere in here, could You please pass mi some links to such articles if You have any?I just want to know if my idea of buying NH1 instead of RH1 doesn't have any big disadvantages that I don't know about. The other option is to wait for the next Sony release with the hope, that it's drawbacks will be more acceptable for me. Or ma7ybe I should consider Mz-RH10? Hope that anybody will say something, and that I didn't do anything wrong starting this topic...

Firstly I would like to say hello to all the members, as this is my first post, although I keep reading this forum for quite a long time. Now, getting back to the topic: I will also probably stop myself from buying RH1, because of lack of the information about the tracks on main unit's display. I really dislike using remotes, mainly because I pretty hate internal headphones. I do enjoy my Sennheiser PX200, and together with it's one and a half meter cable, all the way from the main unit to the headphones would last for 2 meters I suppose, and that's too much for me. I would feel like all wrapped in cables. I do regret it, cause RH1 is so different and so much better from the last few models... Well, I think I'll have to wait until Sony releases next one, and hope that it's drawbacks will be more acceptable for me(as it will have some for sure).
