But can all MP3 players play these files after these extra volume details are stored with the original music data & does this information also transfer when you transfer your music to other media?

I created a very long playlist with almost enough to fill a HD disc. I tried doing the transfer in one operation but found that after a while my PC just hung. After several tries I had to revert to transferring just a few tracks at a time. Is this the things always operate or did I do something wrong?

As you work you can add more tracks to your playlist & these get added to the bottom of the list. I understand that you can work on the list & drag them around to change their sequence. As you know you can create your playlist & transfer at the same time. What I'd like to know is if you have transferred the tracks as you go & then decide what you wished to insert another album in somewhere near the top of the list can you do this without erasing the disk & transfer everything over again?

Where do I find the file that hold all of the data associated with track names, artist etc & can I delete it & get it recreated from Scratch?

A few years back I recorded all of my CD's onto my hard drive as MP3 using iTunes for windows. I find that the volume appears to have been normalized for each album. However there is an enormous difference in volume from one albums set off songs to that of another. None of the tracks have copy protection. I would like to transfer these tracks to my Sony Mini disc using SonicStage 3.4. Is there any easy way to get normalization done using some batch process? What programs might be able to do this? I'm not overly concerned about a little loss of quality if the tracks have to be converted again since my hearing isn't the best in any case. -- Thanks in advance

I have just installed version 3.4. The the program went looking for more tracks. I'm not certain exactly what it did or where it found them but the net result is that I have many tracks listed in SonicStage twice. Is there some easy way to delete the file that carries these details & have the program look again & rebuilt the file from scratch? If so what file do I delete? None of the tracks have ever been downloaded.

I seem to have stired up a lot of discussion with my simple question & that wasn't my intention. The only reason that I asked in the first place is because I have a very slow 28 KBS connection to the web. A 35MB download would take well over 3 hours. The previous versions that didn't require a connection could be handled by my download managment program. I don't think that the version on offer doesn't give you the option of resuming the download if the connection goes down. Thats all.

Will there be a version of 3.4 that doesn't always want to connect to the web?

Is there likely to be a version of SonicSound 3.3 made available that doesn't require a net connection?

I am experiencing even more nonsense from Sony's Sonic Stage 3.2. I have just plugged the recorder in & it's recognized & even displays the tracks already on the disc & indicates that the disc is only 20% full. I then call up a play list & tell it to do the transfer. The software appears to be compressing the files but as each one is finished I get the message that the machine can't find the file. I can go to the left side of the program,the play list side, select the same track it says it can't find & it plays ok. So the left side window finds & plays the track & the right side of the same program says it can't find the file. All tracks can be transfered unlimited times. Any ideas as to what's the problem? -- Thanks in advance

I'm using XP PRO with SP2 & all of latest updates. I preveiously had all of the omgibox.exe problem you mention. After wasting lots of time I eventually got beyong that problem & made one disk. Then I could not make a second one because SonicStage could not see my machine. The new version of SonicStage 3.2 fixed all that & again I got to make one disc before nothing worked. I deleted everything & then did a reinstall. I even has 'my library' reimported & got to make one diskmade before omgibox.exe errors came again. I can't afford to spend my live beta testing Sony's buggy software. These problems surprises me a bit because Sony also has it's name on some of the best bug free software around, Vegas video editing software. But mayby the difference is that Vegas was bought by Sony from Sonic Foundry & just inherited software writers which knew what they were doing. Maybe whey should be looking at Sonic Stage.

After months of not being able to do even my first transfer I finally got the latest verson of SonicStage 3.2 & was able to do one transfer. Then I had problems with an omgibox error poping up. Because nothing was working I yesterday dleted all of the softaware & than did a reinstall. Again I was able to do one transfer without a problem. Today I try to open SonicStage & get the message that 'omgibox.exe has encountered a problem & needs to close'. What's wrong now? When will this nighmare be over?

I think that I may have stumbled on the reason that I haven't been able to transfer files from my hard drive to my minidisc using Sonic Stage.3.2. I was looking up the files Sonic Stage creates when finding music data file on the hard drive that can be used my the program. What I found was that I had 2 sets of Sonic Stage files on the drive & my guess is that this might have come about when I tried all of the various versions that everyone was recommending. recreated. If as I suspect the 2 sets of files is the problem then what might be happening is that the files selected for transfer are being held in one set of files as an optimized file .OMA. The other part of the program that actually does the transfer can't find these optimized files because they aren't in the location expected. I'm not sure where each file should be as well. Under documents & settings>all users>Sonic Stage>packages>I have the optimized files. While under documents & settings for my name>application data>Sony Corp> Sonic Stage there is yet another set of files but none that are optimized. Then under program files>sony>Sonic Stage are the log files , data files etc. I suspect that if the optimized files were in the data files location that problem of not finding the files might go away. But my problem now is if this the case which is the correct location for these files? Do things move from a to b or from b to a. Does anyone know? I can't see an uninstall option with the program just in case I try deleting everything before reinstalling everything & getting the library file -- Thanks in advance

Since I didn't get an anwer to my main question about getting tracks transfered or even to the question about deleting then recreating the dats base on my hard drive I decided to look at the files on my hard drive. I had previously been given the path to the packages file where details about my tracks are kept. If I click on packages I get to see a holder called 'localCDinfo'. Also are several files whose type is listed as 'Microsoft Access Aplication' All of these files are exactlty the same size & are sequencially numbered MtData 1.mdb1,2,3,4,5,etc. What are these files? I suspect that they have something to do about the tracks the program couln't find yet was able to play.

My machine is essential new. It was upgraded in a shop about 2 months ago. It's a 3gb pentium 4 with 1gb ram. It is totally uptodate with patches like SP2 etc & of uses USB2. After weeks of trying I finally have version of Sonic Sound that will recognize my recorder. I even got to make one disk. But now if won't allow me to make a second one. I was doing my second transfer to a minidisc when I started getting the message that a transfer could not be done because the music file could not be found. This happened about a dozen times before I gave up. Without even leaving the page that I had displayed I just clicked on any of these tracks & they would play OK even if they would not transfer. All of the music has been on my hard drives as MP3's for several years after I had recorded them using iTunes for Windows. All of the music Sonic Stage sees is from these files which it detected. What gives? How do I get these tracks transfered? Should I just releate the Sony record of the tracks in library & then tell it to import my files again? If so what is location of this file? I have now had this minidisc for about a month & I still can't make my first disc & it seems unlikely that this is going to happen. I have upgraded to Sonic Sound versio 3.2 after uninstalling 3.1 as suggested on this site. At least I can open this program now without an error message. When I connect the recorder to my PC windows see's it in My Computer & devise manager as well as the minidisc's display itself where it says PM-MD. Dispite all this I never get the option to transfer from my hard drive to the minidisc, only to CD's. HOW DO I FIX THIS PROBLEM ?????????????????

What is the name of the Sonic Stage file that stores the data for your library & where do you locate it? I assume that if I were to delete this file that I can always get it recreated.

After opening the library & selecting tracks I click on create new playlist. The selected tracks open up in a new panel on the right. When I click on transfer at top I only get option to trqnsfer to CD. Clicking on the arrow between left & right panels doesn't allow for fransfer to minidisc.

Well I finally have Sonic Stage 3.2 installed. I opened the program & asked it to import files from a location on my hard drives that I had stored the thousands of MP3 tracks that I had ripped from my old CD's using iTunes for windows. I play a few tracks & everything appears to be working OK. I plug the minidisc recorded into my PC with the provided USB2 cable & machine is detected. PC-MD appears on the screen of minidisc recorder. I drag over a few files to create a play list & click transfer box. The box doesn't offer any transfer options to transfer to minidisc. What did I do wrong?

What if anything is the consequence of Sonic Stage version.3.2 in lieu of the 3.1 if you live in Australia?

I can't but help wondering what if any consequences would evolve from installing 3.2 in lieu of version 3.1? Not much I imagine except perhaps getting some features that you can't use.

I looked at the download page & it has version 3.2 on offer. I was under the impression that 3.2 is for use only if you live in USA & that everwhere else should be using version 3.1. If this is correct is there anywhere to download 3.1 in a format that I can save?

It seems crazy that I should have to endure this problem since I don't intend either now or latter on to connect the program to the internet. As I said I already have thousands of mp3 files on hard drive & I can't see myself ever wanting to connect to the net for music.

To reinstall the program I would have to download it all again. I only have a 28kps connection & it took several hours to download as I recall. The first time I downloaded the update it didn't give me the option of saving the program. Can I get this newer version on a CD anywhere? It's hard to believe that my connection speed is so slow. I only live 8km from the centre of a major Australian but out ridculious telephone company, Telstra allows these sort of black holes of atrotious service to exist. You can't even get broadband service in this area unless you put in a satelite dish.
