  1. Hey that's a great idea, I'll look into that. I'll also look into those eh units. Thank you very much for the ideas.
  2. Hi, I already have two Sony MiniDisc recorders I use for field recording. My father is vision impaired & doesn't have a computer for email. I would like to send him 'audio mail'. I'm thinking of buying him an MD player with large control buttons so I can send him MiniDiscs. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
  3. OK, seems you CAN'T record from the paused position part way through a disc IF the disc is full. Once you have made some space then it seems you can, don't need to access the menu. I was only concerned because if you had a long track and only want to record over part of it you'd be sunk, you'd have to delete the whole track. Thanks.
  4. Hi, When I wanted to re-record over a segment on my MZ-R410, I could set to 'record from here' in my menu, pause at any point on a recorded disc and my new recording would begin from that point. With my NH700 I get the 'disc full' message when I try to record over a previously recorded disc. What do I need to do?
  5. OK, found those mics thanks. Sample sounds good. Have they recorded hi fi speakers playing a cd? I'm just checking if they ship to Australia. I don't really need to record any longer than two hours. I was only mentioning the double record time as a bonus when wiring the input jack for mono i.e. a mono mic sending signal to both left and right channels of the recorder. That's what I do with my line input, I assume it would work the same on the mic input. Would a Lectrosonics M-150 require a power module or transformer for MD input? I see an nh700 starting at $99.00 on Ebay, I'll check and see what they sell for in stores here. An R900 for $50.00 looks appealing though. Thanks for the help. Later: The nh700 retails at $399.00 here and they're on sale for $149.00. That seems like really good value for a new Hi md, the downside for me being the extra weight and thickness.
  6. That's very helpful, thanks. I had a look at that site, lapel mics, but couldn't see BMC. I don't mind mono. I wired my cable to input the same signal to both channels on my R410, then I can record for twice as long if I need to.
  7. Hi, I'm filming a wedding soon and I want to record the vows on a MD recorder. I already have an MZ-R410 which i hook up to a shotgun mic and I've made a cheap transformer to go through. This works great BTW, I just gaff the recorder and transformer to the mic stand. For the vows however I want an MD with mic input which I can slip into the grooms pocket. I'm thinking an omni lapel mic, I've heard good things about Giant Squid mics. For the MD I'm looking on Ebay for an older model, maybe N710 or an R900. I just missed out on an N10 the other day which went for just over $100.00! I like the N10 because it's so light and thin. I don't want the recording aspect to be an inconvenience to the groom. PC uploading is not that important to me, I capture into Adobe Audition at present, and many of the other features on high end units aren't that important either. Mic input, pref sensitivity switch. Size matters, small in this case. Battery life, long. Hold switch Inexpensive Any input welcomed, Thank you.
  8. Thanks for the reply. Don't want to have my level too high as it's easier to deal with low level and boost (in Adobe Audition) than it is to deal with clipped peaks. My current recorder doesn't have mic input, I convert my mic to line level. What you say about finding my segments on the computer is probably my best option, just don't try and find my segments on the MD itself. Just thought there might be a unit that deals with timecode in the same way DV tape does. Thanks again.
  9. Hi, I've done some field recording on my MD walkman recorder (an MZ-R410). It's worked pretty well and I'm thinking of buying another MD recorder. Is there a model that sets time code efficiently? I have tried setting the track mark to 5 mins but the unit still automatically records other track nombers at silences or whatever and so it makes it hard to find a recorded segment by time. It's also inconvenient to scroll back from more than 100 tracks to track 1. I'm currently using line in with a shotgun mic attached to a little pre amp module I rigged up, so the level is a little low but I can easily boost it once it's on computer. I'll be looking at second hand units on ebay or whatever. Any suggestions?
