Changing EQ settings with remote controls
Continuity replied to WaywardTraveller's topic in Minidisc
Except when you scroll through the groups on an RH-10 Bland, Waywayrd and I had to find out how to do so, you actually press the jog quickly on the remote to access the sort options. Used to be a manual for the 40ELK. Thinking of writing one soon with all the functionality included in it for the various units. -
The BC-7HT is the one I would like. It's had nothing but good reviews. I noticed the double charger as well, but most people that I have contacted about it seem to suggest it is rebadged from another company and not actually a Sony. Not much good seems to be said for the BC-7DC2, most people say it doesn't even resemble a Sony. That it is most likely a rebadge. I really don't know, would love a comment concerning the BC-7DC2 from someone here on the board.

Is the RM-MC40ELK fully functional with 2nd generation Hi-MD?
Continuity replied to bland10000's topic in Minidisc
Wow, ok, just figured out how to do it for the groups. Press the jog on the remote once quickly. You can view the tracks on your disc in a variety of ways. Select by group, there are your folders. I feel silly, I never held it down for a short amount of time. Ok, if I could just figure out how to bookmark I'd be ok. Sorry there Wayward, seems I can't figure out how to get that EQ back like I used to. I'll work on that. -
For the phones, check out the sticky in the phones section about the various types for under 100$ Post is really well written. I'm a clip-on fan personally, and the recommendation for the Koss were bang on. Ok, they are ugly, but if you are a basshead and want to amp your phones at home the Koss will deliver much more then you'd expect. They are just beastly.

Aye, Atrain is right. Used to be the highest bitrate for my Sony Clié as well way back. Just love going into SS in the settings for attached devices and seeing a SLEW of devices to set preferences for.

Victor/JVC Release 305Hr Battery Life MDLP Player-Only Unit
Continuity replied to Christopher's topic in News
Anyone ever try to contact Victor/JVC, Kenwood, Sony or others to see if Hi-MD is actually available to liscence or if they tried to? I'd love to have a price tag on that liscence agreement too. My japanese is kind of shaky at best, and I'm afraid I would run into a language barrier pretty fast. I think no company in Canada can answer that either as the releases seem to be in Japan only. I'm betting our much liked Moderator who's heading to CeBit has that question up his sleeve. -

The RH-10 is the only one I own that does this. Possibly that it is the only model I have ever seen that you have to use the internal menus to view in group mode? On the unit: Menu MainPlayMode Group Mode (Get List of Groups as Folders to select one) On the remote: Menu MainPlayMode Group Mode (Group Mode blinks a few times then goes back to main playing screen) Think it's the way it's coded into the firmware. It is the main unit after all that tells the remote what to show. -
Sony's Digital Rights Mania finally lands them in court
Continuity replied to Christopher's topic in News
My friends at the office have been following this closely for quite some time now. Want to know something funny? A co-worker rented Stealth the other day to watch at home. 27" computer screen with a TV tuner inside. Really sweet setup. Reading up on all this stuff makes him paranoid... so he holds down the shift key when inserting the DVD into his comp. Guess what... The comp wouldn't even read the DVD until the shift key was released. Held it down for 15 minutes. As soon as he let go.. EULA. New software from old copy protection mogul Macrovision it seems. -

Strange, mine doesn't do that. If I use the jog shuttle on the 40ELK with my RH-10 I scroll through all available songs. It doesn't show the groups as folders, just one endless list. The way Bland describes it is how it works on my 600D. It also works that way on my actual RH-10 display when I use it directly. Been doing that since I got the remote really. Tried all combinations of play modes and display settings, it still does the same. Very strange. Maybe the difference with the american model I purchased here in Canada? -
That has got to be the greatest quote ever. How about a 1st gen Nomad Jukebox? Man those things are heavy.

I second TheRule on the drag and drop thing. Personally I find it a pain. Ok, SonicStage has it's faults, but syncing is actually a very nice feature once you get used to it. It's one of the only reasons I actually like Jukebox software, be it Itunes or SS. I jumped 10 feet in the air when I first saw SS ask me to sync my whole library to my wife's 1 Gig Flash Player Add a new song to the library, plug up the player to charge and there it is on the go. Oh, and drag and drop doesn't have offline browsing. It's a really minor point, but sometimes you just don't feel like getting up and getting your player that is in another room that just happens to have a party in full swing. That 300 coats are piled up on yours and you have to dig through them to find your pocket. Just to see if you remembered to put a song in there. To figure out what to remove if there isn't enough room for said song. Ok, I exagerate a lot Enough with the D&D bashing Personally I can't live without removeable media. It just has to be that. It has to be easily labelled too. MDs are nice for that. I lived for years with a Sony Clie for my music. Can't write much on a Memory Stick, trust me I've tried. Can't really go lower then 4 pt with specialty fonts. Also do you know how easy those little things are to loose?? Personally, I always found 1 Gig for the media to be a nice size for music. Not too big, not too small. And the price in this case (MD) is right. It works for me. I love the MiniDisc for a lot of reasons, but also see why my wife prefers a HD or Flash unit. They both have valid points. I need to partition my music because I'm like that, my wife just likes to listen one way through. I like to lend music (knowing that in 90% of the cases the album doesn't come back like most books I lend) where my wife doesn't. I don't mind carrying a stylish leather case with a few spare discs, she does. I've tried iRivers, iPods and the like by buying them for my wife. They do what they do well, which is play music. To me it all comes down to the removeable media. You either like lugging extras around or you don't. You can get used flash players pretty cheap. I mean really cheap. I'd say start with that, try it a while and it will give you the feel for a bigger unit. And it's not like you have to cut one way or the other really in one go, you can always go back to your MD if that's more your thing. You don't have to go cold turkey.

"Bring out yer Dead" People bringing out their DATs, Tape Decks, 8 Tracks. Throwing them in piles. Little MZ-1: "I'm not dead yet!!!" Don't worry, no other new Hi-MDs out yet from other companies is just a flesh wound.

Hey Tartan, those overcomplicated computer screens are actually a pretty big business. I have a friend who makes fake computer screens for most of the Sci-Fi shows you can name, as well as motion pictures. It's a big business, rest assured it's fake. What gets me are people who just don't care about other people. Like waiting in line for an ATM for 15 minutes, it's your turn, then someone walks in from outside right up to the teller. Happened to me once. When you tell him "Hey, I've been waiting 15 minutes here!" he answers "It won't take long and I'm in a hurry!". I guess there is no chance that I am too Or when you are driving, and someone does something entirely in the wrong and actually gets angry at you for doing what's normal. He burns a red light, dings you when you were on the green. Then when you get out of the car to exchange papers he actually is screaming at you that you're an idiot and that it's your fault. I just don't get that. So that's that. Common courtesy towards others is cool. Do onto others and all that.

Like CrazyIvan I've been keeping it on to get used to it. It is actually starting to grow on me. We've been using boards for sooo many years that look exactly alike. Curious if it started out this way instead of the "normal" look that the "normal" look would actually get on our nerves. The flow I believe is actually better on portable devices if you ask me. Especially if you turn graphics off. It reads better then the default skin on a Hiptop or Sidekick anyhow. One thing I find though, this new skin is a lot brighter overall. It might benefit from some darker shades. BasicX is ok, doesn't play nice with horizontal stretching though

The 3 line scrolling is amazingly fun As I mentionned above I just wish the RH-10 would send the proper info so I could scroll through just the names of the groups on the display and enter the one of my choice. Kind of funny that the 600D handles it fine and the actual RH-10 unit does it ok from within the menu when you choose group mode.
