  1. Actually I got into 105 back in my Clié days. I found it excellent if ripped from an original CD at the time in terms of compromise. Even on the stereo didn't sound soooo bad. Considering a 256 Meg Magicgate Memory Stick would set me back 350 CAD$ it was a nice compromise. Getting back into MD though I kind of appreciate the fine things in life like Hi-SP LoL Especially when you aren't paying 1200$ for a gig But converted from an MP3? I had troubles dealing with the quality that gave. Ouch. Which makes me wonder: my Clié certainly isn't ATRAC3+, so 105 kb/s must not be part of ATRAC3+. Maybe ATRAC3 without the plus
  2. Well, no London Drugs out here in Quebec. Future Shop salesman told me to forget it a week ago, that MD was dead. They didn't even have 72s or 80s left. That they wouldn't restock, and that even the 70s and 80s would not be restocked. Walked over to Radio Shack and they actually told me the same thing! Been buying 80s mostly at Walmart here in Montreal for 9,99$ CAD for a pair. Sony Store had Hi-MDs, but they keep running out after 2 days of recieving them! I see the packs of 10 stacked up when I manage to buy some. Then I go back a few days later and gone! Selling like crazy here. Independant stereo stores here charge 19.99$CAN for a Hi-MD blank on average. No wonder Sony Stores sell out so fast! Found www.minidisc-canada.com and now I'm happy. Shipping is insanely fast, they are in the same city. Price is actually great compared to anywhere else for 72s and 80s. I'd like to find some of the old style Hi-MDs LoL, want the cases. Have a large collection of pre-recorded discs and a lot of the cases are cracked. Could replace them that way.
  3. Just thought I'd like to add I really like these. The thing I find that sets them apart is that the backing is actually white. This is conveniant for labelling song tracks on the back with an easy to find black sharpie. (Same spot as pre-recorded discs) The only downside I guess for labelling is that there is no recessed area to guide you affixing a label on the front. They also feel very solid for some reason, and the texture is very Imac-ish. Very nice and smooth to the touch. These are the first TDKs I have owned, and I am quite impressed with their quality and esthetics. One annoying thing of note... On every site that sells these they are actually called something different by the site. I've seen them called the TDK "Littleman". "Dancing Man", "Running Man" and "MDUM80X10N". This makes it hard to search for them LoL Guess this is the Minidisc formerly known as "Littleman". Excellent Minidisc.
  4. Sorry, my bad =) I can see where the confusion would be. I logged onto www.connect.com, and if you follow the links it says you can download the new "Connect Player". When you do click on the link to download it, it downloads SonicStageInstaller.exe =)
  5. I was just reading through some reviews of players on Audiocubes, this review seems to talk about the Connect player with an MD unit: http://www.audiocubes.com/product_reviews_...?reviews_id=915 Kind of vague, but seems like he's talking about the Connect player in the middle of it. "Sonic Stage has a bad rep, and the latest version of Connect is no exception." Maybe an indication?
  6. I remember when I was in Japan (this was quite a while ago) that having a player only unit was actually not a bother at all. It's what got me interested in the format. There was always the pre-recorded MDs, and those little vending machine kiosks that you would select songs to fill an MD, pop in a blank and it would fill it after swiping your method of payment. Would love a music store that holds the masters and makes copies of your choice on the media of your choice. I still have some of those MDs lying around somewhere, having songs I picked pretty much at random since I couldn't read Japanese. Kind of funny even that some songs had a mixture of Japanese and English in the titles. Would do funky things on my LCD display. Don't know if those kiosks are still around, but I still wonder as to the value of a player only Hi-MD unit. I thought the main selling point is cheap removeable storage for schoolteachers and such as well as being a music unit. Then again, I don't even know if they still release new pre-recorded albums on MD anymore. Maybe it's for families who will get one recorder at home (something like the DS-HMD1 or an RH-10) and then get low cost units for all the family members. Unit breaks down and you have a huge library? Get a player unit. Anyhow, to sum it up, just curious as to how people use their player only units these days and if anyone actually has any here that can share =)
