  1. I too am looking for such a service/procedure. a guy in England contacted me and wanted Thirty pounds plus shipping and handling (which I think is around $75) to convert ONE DISK, which seems kinda steep. I pinged him back offering $20 up front and $20 on receipt of recovered disc and never heard from him again.......................... You will note in the NetMD/MDLP forum that there're at least three separate posts pertaining to this problem. the servicemode/je320deck/TOC cloning procedure seems ........ scary and too uncertain. I KNOW I have not written data to my disk. I KNOW the stuff's still there. >thirty years of working with various computer and PC data mediums tells me that I should be able to get the stuff off of the disk if I don't write any new data or perform any such operations. I am not eager to screw with it and maybe mess up what could be recovered. along these lines, if you go to the Sony Service pages, the first bulletin, posted early this month (october) FOR EVERY MODEL MD UNIT concerns a virus that is directed toward moveable storage. I had three years of problem-free mini disc use until I bought a used 520 from a Philadelphia Pawn shop on eBay.......... makes me wonder. if there is anyone out there with heavy duty deck equipment or PC data drives that can perform this service???? BELIVE ME, I will PAY.

    unit eats discs

thanks for the link to the TOC cloning stuff. I looked it over but, I dunno.... I'm too anal to get past the differencces between the instructions (for a deck) and the operation of my unit. plus, I REALLY like my 707, and am not willing to jeopardize its integrity to fix a disk. I might try it with the s1, but I'm afraid I'd do even more damage to the disc, and perhaps lessen the chances of actually recovering the data. The first time I put a (SONY) memory stick in my card reader and got an incorrect format/blank disc indication on my PC, I went out and bought a digital picture recovery utility that has saved my ass too many times already. Any thoughts on mini disc data??? I really would like to get that disk back AND WILL PAY SOMEONE WHO HAS THE EXPERTISE to recover the lost info on the disk (15 tracks, 77 minutes of songs). peace (means no war) tim
  3. Hi all, I've waded through the archives and, excuse me if I'm missing something, but is there any sort of file recovery utility/method/service????? My daughter's MZ-S1 has taken unblievable abuse for 2+ years, and, as J.C. Swayze sez -- it take a lickin'n ..... well, it refused to read her disc the other day -- just outta the blue it looked at a disc she'd been playing for weeks and called it blank. I took a disc of mine, put it in, and it worked fine. then I took it out and tried hers again and it showed Blank Disc. I put mine back in and ...... blank disc. I took it over to my MZn707 and.... Blank disc. I put it in the NF520D -- blank disc. this unit also krapped out another of her discs. i plugged the 707 into the PC and attempted to read the disc using sonicstage -- blank disk. that's for a Sony 80 min. For her JVC 74 min it shows NO DATA. All of these disks have data on them; the record function has never been accessesd. the S1 has reached the end of a long and exciting life -- I plan to replace it. the other two seem OK, but I don't want to push it. I do, whowever, NEED THE DISC info to be restored. it's a live show I am kinda attached to. does anyone do data recovery for MD?? is there a service available, or software out there?? btw. I installed the latest sonicstage, and tried to read from the 707 on both XP and W98SE systems.
