  1. That the screen has a light on it, so it is visible at night and in the dark. The LCD screen on the rh910 is not backlit. The rh10 uses oled, so it is very bright and can be seen very easily in the dark and at night. The screen is also very eye pleasing I must say. Also I own headphones almost exactly like that from sony. Got them for 9.99 at FYE. They are fantastic and very comfortable, much better than my px200s.
  2. Good choice, but also keep in mind that the rh910 is not backlit. The RH10 is well worth money for the OLED screen.
  3. The only units that take an internal AA are the NH600(D), NH700, and NHF800. All the others except the RH1 and NH1 have double AA attachments, which are kind of inconvienant. The only models with lineout are the RH1, NH1, and NH900, only one of which can use a AA via attachment. Only the 2nd and 3rd gen models can play native mp3s (RH or DH models) but are really not worth the hassle, as there is a mp3 glitch in all the second gens and converting to atrac is quick and easy, plus it gives you much more storage space than mp3. Since you need live recording stay away from the DH710 and NH600D. If you can deal without mic in (and use a battery powered mic) and RH710 or NH600 would do nicely, both of which take internal AA's. The only radio unit is the NHF800 or NH700 and buying a radio remote for it. So to fit your exact criteria, there really is not unit that can do all of what you want. The closest I can see is the NH900 which will take AA via attachment, has line out, and mic in/line in. Another option would be the NHF800 if you want a radio, want internal AA's, and can deal without the line out. The RH10 is also a very nice unit with a beautiful OLED display, but it has no line out and only takes AA's via attachment. See more in the equipment browser: http://minidisc.org/equipment_browser.html And welcome to the forums.
  4. Well based on your needs the NH700 sounds like the best option, you can find it for ~$120 on ebay shipped. You can also use rechargeable AA's and AA's get much longer battery life actually. The NHF800 is also nice if you want a radio, ~$150 on ebay shipped. NH900 is a good unit for recording, with better sound quality with a HD Digital Amp, but it has some problems with battery life. 10 hours on the rechargeable gumstick, but if you don't mind using the AA attachment, you can get up to 35 with both attached. The 2nd gens directly play mp3s, but transfering to ATRAC is really no hassle at all. You CANNOT record live or from line in mp3 format, only Atrac3plus. You can get the RH910 cheap, as you have seen. You might also be able to find an RH10 for under 200, which has an absolutely gorgeous OLED display. It is worth the money, but both models can scratch easily and only get about 10 hours of battery life per the gumstick. But of course you can attach the AA to get around 35 like the NH900. I don't recommend the RH1 as it is out of your price range, and it is really not worth the extra money anyway as it only has a 1 line display and has no real functions to be a good player. If you are ONLY recording and nothing but recording, then it will do fine, but not really any better than other units. As you don't have any legacy tracks to upload.
  5. My 600D arrived today in perfect condition and functioning just fine. Also got a hi-md disc with the shipment.
  6. Welcome to MD, glad you like it. Fine choice too, my unit is pretty much the same (rh10) without mac compatibility.
  7. I know, but it's a shame to see them give up like this. By then, all the stuff may be completely out of date. Hopefully, sony makes something that will gear towards playback. I wonder why they are shifting gears all of a sudden?
  8. Sony come on, don't give up. They are giving up on consumers completely. Playback is the last thing on their mind now, it looks like all the new units will gear towards recording for years to come. If 5 years, and both my MD units die out, I really hope I have somewhere to go to.
  9. I did, got no response, so crossed my fingers and went for it. Edit - Ironically, he just responded (after my purchase) saying it is functioning perfectly with no scratches at all. Sounds good.
  10. I've decided I'm not gonna spend $90+ for a second unit, I can live without a radio. I'm now on the hunt for a 600D for under 30 bucks on ebay, will report back. I'm currently bidding on one now. I love my rh10, but would hate to lose or or break it. I can use the 600D as my "grab n go" unit, so to speak. Without worrying about it or being extra careful not to touch the surface and keeping it in a pouch. Edit - Won it, for 45 bucks w/shipping. A little more than I wanted to spend. It is used, hopefully it is functioning perfectly.
  11. I'm no audiophile, 64Kbps sounds great, especially compared to 48kbps. The bitrates higher than 64 sound no better. So I use 64. I got into MD for removable media, unlimited storage, long battery life, and to avoid a easily-damagable HD. I currently have 3 seperate discs, one more my main music library, another for chritmas songs, and another just for laughs. Removable media is great, but I like to store as much as possible and I'm know I'm not missing anything as far as sound quality because all of the music that I put on my MD is from 128kbps mp3, so putting it into atrac3 or atrac3+ at 128kbps or greater can't make it better, if it wasn't better from the start. I hardly ever rip of CDs. I love the idea of atrac3+, getting over 500 quality songs per gig, instead of 240 in mp3. MD is great format, and I think Hi-LP sounds fantastic with no crackling like in 48kbps, perfect for my needs.
  12. I really hope this is not just a rebadged rh1, then all my exitement would be for nothing. Sony has to get it right, I just can't see this being a rebadged rh1.
  13. Ever since I've been into hi-md (since october 05) I've been using 48kbps Atrac3+ simply for capacity. I never really noticed anything wrong with the sound quality. Today I tried to play it over some large speakers, what a disaster, constant crackling on loud parts of songs. I had 288 songs on my hi-md disc, all in 48kbps. I decided to put one sample of Hi-LP on it and did. The song sounded much better, all crackling disappeared. I'm no autophile, but I definitely here the difference between 48kbps and 64kbps. Hi-LP sounds great. But the dilema, 288 songs in 48kbps on my disc. With all of them already in that format, there was no way to increase them to 64kbps. So I grabbed my other hi-md (blue) disc, then re-transfered all 288 songs from my playlist. Took a few good hours, because I had to move all of them around after transfering to be in order (OCD) and change all titles and artist names around to be correct. But it was well worth it, quality of sound is much better now and I think 34 hrs is plently of storage in the long run.
  14. Yes, but that might just be the "audiocubes type price" so to speak. Atleast we know more 3rd gen units are on the way.
  15. Another 3rd gen unit on the way? Maybe so! Sounds the the upgrade to the rh10/m100 as I have wanted to here. Way to go sony, hope it's true! All the new features of the rh1, plus the beloved features of the rh10 (large display, jog dial on unit, AA addon, etc.) will make the perfect unit. http://www.shoreviewdistribution.com/morei...modelNum=MZM200 Edit: Found some more info here: http://www.minidiscforum.de/forum/viewtopi...fe46f63294ac4b1 English translation: MZ-M200 - announced this week on the NAB2006, information from the user "flintstone", MDCF - like MZ-M10 and MZ-M100 a "pro variant" of the normal MD Walkmans - becomes inclusive microphone and software (Soundforge?) supplied - probably easily changed appearance (other one imprint as with MZ-M10/100) - possibly only for UK/USA market
  16. I really have no problem with sony releasing a unit mainly directed at recording (they've done it before with the nh1). The problem is that they are only releasing one unit. 1st and 2nd generation units were released with units meant for playback, units meant for recording, and units meant for both. Sony missed a beat, that's why I'm hoping that the rh1 is not the only 3rd gen unit. How about a MZ-M200 or MZ-RH100? Something like that. Edit: What do you know, just entered mz-m200 out of curiosity on google and got this: http://www.shoreviewdistribution.com/morei...modelNum=MZM200 It's on the way! Go sony!
  17. 1. Going from a 6 line OLED to a 1 line OLED screen. 2. Loss of being able to view artist/track names on unit itself. 3. Loss of a jog dial (makes the rh1 unusable for someone with hundreds of tracks on an MD). Only solution would be buying a $70 40elk, which would still make the unit unusable when just using the unit itself. 4. Loss of AA addon, losing battery life. Sony made some terrible mistakes when releasing this unit, it's a shame. Hopefully a unit is released as an upgrade to the rh10.
  18. Every year around early summer, last year's models become discontinued. But sony is really going in the wrong direction only releasing the rh1 (which in my opinion is a big downgrade from the rh10). Hopefully they release another unit to replace the rh10.
  19. If your still looking for it, I just stumbled across this on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/SONY-WIRED-REMOTE-FOR-...1QQcmdZViewItem
  20. Thanks. I just one an auction on ebay for a MZ-NE410 (fathers day gift) and mothers day is sunday. So I'm gonna hold off for now (I was outbid on the ebay auction for the 700 anyway). Once I get some more cash, maybe get a job somewhere, I'll get back on track for the NH700.
  21. I never knew you could use a radio remote with the nh700, I just bidded $37 for one now. The AM works too right?
  22. I love my rh10, but I want a second unit. One wear I'm not afraid to grab it and don't have to constantly keep it in a case to prevent scratches (which I have tons of now anyway). I also want a unit with a AM/FM tuner remote, here is what I've narrowed it down too, I'm gonna buy used or new off ebay. NetMD MZ-NF610 NetMD MZ-NF810 HiMD MZ-NHF800 Here's the problem, I'm 15 and don't have a job. I currently have about $165 in my wallet, but don't want to blow it all on a NHF800 which is about what I will have to pay. Although I lose HiMD, I will create a few netmd discs with just my favorite songs, if I have to go down that path. I would strongly prefer the NF810 over the NF610 just buy general looks, but it is really all about price. I think I may be able to get the NetMD units for under $40. What do you guys think? I need second opinions to help me decide what to go for.
  23. Thanks, I'm off to ebay.
  24. I know that the radios cannot record, I never use recording. I'm just looking for a cheap radio unit that has built-in AM radio in the remote.
